TC-705-EB53 video card installation
I've successfully installed an eVGA GeForce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 64bit card with no problems... except that I first punched out the wrong hole in the back of the case :-(. I guess I can regard it as extra ventilation?
I have two questions:
- The specs say the PCI exansion slot is x16, but Speccy shows it as x8. Have I done something wrong?
- In the pic below what is the square thing above the expansion slot, and what are the the black and white wires coming from it? And what is the thicker black wire at the bottom?
Thanks for any answers,
Tom

EVGA isn't very clear if it's x8 or x16, because saying PCI-E 2.0 means nothing or at least capable to x16.
it's better if you send an email to EVGA and ask that information.

The square thing is a Wifi card.
the big black wire is the USB and Audio front connection.
about the "wrong hole" don't worry
about x8 pci express speed, what kind of software do you used to check it?
GPU-Z is a good one to quickly check.

GPU-Z, HWiNFO64 and Piriform Speccy all show PCI-Express x8. GPU-Z adds that the card supports version 2.0, but is running at 1.1. It says power-saving features may affect the results, but I don't know if I'm using any power-saving features.
Thanks for the other information. I suppose the thin wires coming from the wi-fi thing are antennas?

Yes, they are.
about power settings, check on nvidia control panel if you set maximum performance.

tkavan,
If you post a link to the card you bought, it will probably help ironfly.
We have same motherboard and I have i5 4440. I have latest BIOS (not that it matters).
My card is capable of running (linking) at x16, but I'm not sure that yours is.

Some GT 730 are only x8, but I'm not really knowledgeable about all of the GT 730 (or PCI express lanes for that matter).

The gold contact strip on the model I have seems to be twice as long (wide?) as the one in your link.
Here's a link to the EVGA website for my model...

But I don't know what that means!

Not sure how to set max performance!
Here's a link to the card I have...

It doesn't say anything about x8 or x16 that I can see.
Here's a screenshot of the GPU-Z report. As you can see I was able to get it from 1.1 to 2.0 in the Bus interface section. But it still says x8. Maybe that's all this version of th card can handle. I asked only because I may have done, or not done, something that limits it to x8.

Thanks Ironfly.
I just clicked on the Lookup button of the GPU-Z report and it goes to a specs page that says that this card is indeed x8.

Thanks JordanB. That clarifies things for me.

In some ways your previous HD4600 graphics will beat the card that you installed. It just depends on what applications that you're doing. You really have to move in to the NVIDIA GTX 750 or GTX 750 ti before you blow away the HD4600.
