How do I configure secure email account on Android 4.4.2 on Z520
Trying to configure SECURE POP3 email for Android
(phone: Acer Z520; Android version 4.4.2)
---
I need to be able to configure an email account using SECURE (SPA & SSL) settings.
I cannot see how to do this ..... and as a result my attempts at configuration always fail to connect.
---
Partly this is a problem in converting between "Microsoft" (Outlook) terms and "Android" terms.
---
I have been able to see how to enter the POP3 server name, and the incoming port number ----> as yet I have NOT been able to get as far as the SMTP configuration.
---
Using "Microsoft" terms, I need to know how to configure the following configuration items within the Android email account set-up:-
* Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) --- selected
* My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication --- selected
* Use same settings as my incoming mail server --- selected
* This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) --- selected
* Use the following type of encrypted connection [for SMTP] = SSL
* Outgoing server (SMTP) = 465
---
Please provide a *** DETAILED *** explanation of how to configure this.
---
Unless the phone can achieve SECURE email connectivity with my email service provider, then I will be unable to use it to receive emails. !!!!
I cannot believe that this level of security has not been a common requirement already - but I can find no mention of it in online help or the user manual.

ok, the main issue about the standard android email client is that's impossible to set anything on SMTP or other settings, if it fails to login using email address, password and server host name.
if you are able to let it login (you can enter manually security protocol, server address, port, at the first screen asking for email address and password), then you are able to set also SMTP server too.
are you able at least to login?
if not, i suggest you to try an alternative email client, like K9:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9
and...if you can use IMAP instead of POP3/SMTP, it will be way better on sync side.
I'm not an Acer employee.0 -
Hi - thanks for the reply.
But - the K9 email app doesn't handle it either.
I need something which handles the Outlook paramenter of
"Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)"
It seems that without this configuration parameter available, it will not connect.
Without it, nothing works.
