Anyone trying to get sound through their HDMI port after upgrading to Windows 8 on an Aspire x1700?

Okay - yep, I know... But even the Acer site had upgrade paths for Win8.  Now - no support for the Nivda audio I guess.  Updated driver once and had to reload Win 8 to get screen back.  Ug.  Please let me know if you find anything.  There should be a driver install that will not impact the video but allow you to channel sound out the HDMI cable I'd think.

    The Windows8 Upgrade offer page:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows-upgrade-offer

The X1700 is not listed as supported.

I would check the sound properties and make sure audio is being sent to HDMI.

I see two options - one finding some setting difference like that - but I don't see where you can send the output to the HDMI port.  Guess I have to study.  Or find a card that will support it natively. Any ideas appreciated.  Looks like a board upgrade (graphics) with a current hdmi compatable audio driver may be last resort...  not sure.

I'd be okay for getting sound out of one of the alternate ports - its a business machine and not used for gaming.  I haven't read any posts yet where an upgrade or replacement graphics/audio card will give sound out of the HDMI port...  it came with speakers I think.  Wonder if they'll work analog?

Have you looked at the HDMI articles in our knowledge base?

How do I enable HDMI audio on this computer?
