Well I can't say that I am happy to have to sign up here.  But I have read through a lot of posts with a very frustrating similar issue.  WIFI dropping the password that is.

Why is it that this company can't fix this issue??  Mine is still under factory warrant till 2016 but I don't want to send it in for over a month and have my 8 year old son upset!

So Please ACER!!!  What are you going to do about this?  Your company has had multiple complaints!  And NO!!!  A hard reset does NOT fix this issue!!  Time for an update or send me a new machine!!

If this isn't resolved, I will never buy another Acer product again!  And will be sure to voice to all to stay away from this manufacture!

So...  What do I do???

    Hi kdwittmaier,

I'm sorry for the frustation this is causing you, unfortunately, it's not an Acer issue, it's an Android issue. I don't doubt that you can find other complaints about Acer products as we have a number of Android devices on the market, but it doesn't only affect us. Honestly, I haven't found a full proof 100% fix. The best solutions generally revolve around some form of back up, whether that's Google's account backup features or other 3rd party backup features that likely corrupt the PW and put you in this position.

I don't have a 'do this to fix it' solution for you. A quick google search for android wifi password doesn't save shows a lot of results, and nothing consistent in terms of a solution. As I said previously, solutions generally involve purging backed up data.

Thanks for the quick reply Cory. However this is clearly a hardware issue.  This Tablet ahs worked completely fine up untill the past month or so.  With that being said this clearly not a software issue, if it was.  A Hard reset would have solved the issue.

There is a Hardware issue and this particular model has mutiple complaints within this community stating the same issue about this same model.  So please lets not try to beat around the bush with simple explainations the hide the real issue.

lost wifi password is a software issue and it's android issue; sometimes this can be fixed long pressing the WiFi connection name and select to forget that network, then try to connect back to the same network and re-inserting the password.

wifi dropping connection can be software or hardware issue, for sure is more hardware related and can be a problem with the antenna cables or bad wifi chip.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Thank you IronFly.  I actually just got off the phone with Tech support.  They have created a repair # and is being sent it for repairs.

It's funny how an Acer Community Manager could or would think this is an Andriod issue.  Or think that I wasn't intelligent enough to realize otherwise.  Pfftt...

I will keep everyone updated with the outcome.  Only issue I still have is my poor 8 year old son is going to have to go without his tablet for a few weeks.

Maybe I didn't fully understand, but if the unit is not saving a wireless password, as in you're having to reenter the password each time you try to connect, that is not a hardware error and that is what I was referencing.

If the wireless connection just isn't holding a connection, as Ironfly said, it can be hardware or software. I would suggest that it's likely a software issue and could be tested by testing on other wireless hotspots and see if the issue persists.

As far as our repair guys setting up the unit for service, they have as much information as you give them and if you say there is an issue, they'll try basic troubleshooting and then have you send it in for repair if the issue persists. It doesn't mean any more or less that it's a hardware issue. I'm afraid that if your issue is the first one (password not saving) there won't be anything to repair because it's not a hardware issue. I'm not here to "beat around the bush" with you. If you're having a problem, we're here to discuss it and help you with the best information we have available.

My experience has been the same as Cory and Ironfly suggest. If the problem is the wifi password being forgotten each time you need to connect, the issue is software and only fixed by a complete reflash of the OS (just a reset doesn't usually work, since some stuff is left behind), and then fixed only until it breaks again. I believe it's likely an interaction between Android and an app or combination of apps, since not everyone running that OS build sees it.

If the problem is lost wifi connection with the tablet only able to connect while within a foot or two of the router the problem is hardware, typically disconnected antenna cables. When the wifi chip/module has gone south you typically have no wifi, even sitting the tablet directly on the router.

It has never worked. It has been this way since the first day I got it (well I technically didn't know about it until the first time I took it somewhere and then came back home) My phone is running 4.4.4 and does not have this issue. My first guess was it has something to do with Acer's fragment of the OS itself. I really don't take it out much anymore so kind of stop caring but everytime I recycle the power it still needs to be done, kind of annoying and wishing there was a permanent fix

ACER Iconia One 7 has this problem with the wi-fi.

Many other devices using Android do not, in fact this is the only case of a mobile device where this happens that I know of.

I use several Android powered devices and none of them have this issue. If Acer tweeks Android to use on their devices, why not provide with an update and solve it?

The answer is simple: it is not yet solved after so long because it is not a software problem. When there are software bugs, they are solved with patches. When there are hardware problems, they must go back to the factory.

But the most frustrating for me, about Iconia One 7, is that I cannot install new apps from Android Studio, because the computer never recognizes it in Device Manager as an "ADB device". The USB driver provided by ACER for windows 7 does not install properly.

As far as I care, the solution is very simple: in the future, when buying a device for myself, I will simple avoid ACER. Other brands have reliable lower end products.

    Best Regards
