Key's not working c720

I work in a 1:1 school environment.  A number of c720's have come into my repair room recently with keyboards not working. At first we changed out the keyboards ( They are a year old and take a beating from teenagers) but we noticed the same units came back within a week with the same issue. Obviously it is not the keyboard. I have checked cable connections, swapped ssd cards , powerwash/re enrolled, USB reset all only with momentary success if any. I am at a complete loss. It is strange to have so many come in with the same issue. I cant remeber having any like this last year. Almost all of them also have the battery indicator showing they are charging when they are not even plugged in. Any ideas how to proceed in fixing these?

    Please see my contribution to this thread. 

     

    I have same symptoms, incuding blue 'fully-charged' light is on all the time; strongly suspect problem caused by latest update:

     

     

    Version 46.0.2490.82 (64-bit)

    Platform 7390.68.0 (Official Build) stable-channel peppy

    Firmware Google_Peppy.4389.93.0 

     

    Is it possible to back-out of the update??

     

    Can't find how to send a PM, tried 'message', but got 'Access Denied'

    Please reply & fix if poss - working with my C720 almost impossible as it is.

    You can try a powerwash to see if that gets it up and working for you, if not, you would need to contact the Acer Technical support team in your are for service possibly.

    Is there no way to back out the latest update?

    I have moved to the latest Beta, but I find it's dated 04 Nov 2015, so I'm not surprised to find there's no change.

     

    focadima reports (s)he's tried the powerwash route, and also says: "It is strange to have so many come in with the same issue", so there's something going on.

    And how do you explain the blue charge light being on?

    Hi focadima!

     

    My C720 has developed exactly the same probem, including the blue charging light being on all the time.

    I'm only managing to work at all by using the Accessibility on-screen keyboard!

     

    My C720 was manufactured Dec 2013 - does that correlate with your chromebooks that are failing?

    Powerwash done, moved back to Stable Channel.

     

    No change in symptoms. Would appreciate assistance with resolving this probem.

    If you have not already, please report the issue to Google, they may have a fix for it. The only solution I can provide is to contact the Acer Technical support in your area about having the system possibly serviced.
