Installing office 2013 home & student fails

Hi,

I have a Icona w4-820 and it was supposed to be sold with office preinstalled. It did not, but I managed to get the correct installer from MS using the product identifier that I found in the box. The installer is somehow stopping after a few second with the only message "Couldn't install, we're sorry. We had a problem installing your office program(s).". That's the only feedback I've got.

Some chatting with MS did not gain much, see

Did anyone managed to get office on a w4?

Hurray, I was able to activate office now. That was one of the first things I did after recovery.

As expected, Office was not really preinstalled, and also no Acer eRecovery Mansgement is there. Probably because the w4 32 GB does not have a proper recover partition. I'll create a recovery disk after I'm finished installing all updates and removing the bloatware.

Just curious, why is Acer shiping a recovery dvd with a device that does not have a dvd player? If wanted, I can describe how I managed to create a bootable recovery usb flash drive. Just let me know.

To wrap up, the solution was to do a recovery. Thanks for your replies.

    Jacobw,

We have an article here that discusses how to get this feature installed, it doesn't require you to download or go get an installer from anywhere.

    Thanks for your reply.

I already followed the steps mentioned in the article. However, I recall that there was an inconsistency between the key and the office version. From there I downloaded a correct version, as mentioned in the article from download.office.com. That setup file fails to install.

Would you be so kind to read my post at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-office_install/couldnt-install-office-2013-home-student/3f162dc1-699b-4880-9033-cffaaf598949?

    Jacobw,

In that article there is a link to where you would need to download the office version from, http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/get-office-oem-download-page-FX103849951.aspx.

If you downloaded a version from anywhere but there the MPI card will not work with it as you are downloading a retail copy versus the OEM one. I would recommend that you follow the steps on that link to go through activation if it failed initially.

If you want to start the whole process over to make sure it's done right, you can always perform a system restore to first time out of box or a restore to take it to factory defaults. That way would ensure you do not have a retail copy of office trying to be used.

That's sounds as a proming direction. The link you provided is not working. Http 404. Do you have another link?

I tried the link from the article. That one is working but is giving me exactly what I have already. A setup file Setup.x86.en-US_HomeStudentRetail_XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX_TX_DB_.exe with the xxx my serial. That installer is ending up prematurily.

Stupid me, I removed all acer programs so I cannot eaily recover since I do not have a usb dvd player to boot the recovery discs with. Any other suggestios? I cannot found the eRecovery management tool anywhere for download.

    Jacobw,

If you did not delete the hidden recovery partition you can access it to do a recovery by tapping ALT-F10 when the splash screen loads as discussed in this article. That will reset your unit to factory defaults and install the Acer prgrams back on to the unit.

I managed to reach the factory reset option, unfortunately it seems that I do not have a proper recovery partition? Windows is asking me for installation media.

    I see 3 partitions:

    1. Recovery Partition 400 MB

    2. Efi System Partition 100 MB

    3. Primary Partition 28.51 GB

That looks ok to me? Do you know if the W4 is suposed to have a revovery partition? I thought only for the 64 GB edition.

I am trying to create a bootable USB drive using an inage of the recovery DVD and a tool called rufus.

Looks like you don't have the recovery image on your drive. That's normal for 32GB systems. If it were there you would have one more partition about 8GB in size. Check your C drive to see if you have an OEM folder still, many of the Acer install packages are kept there. If that's gone you'll have to pull them off the recovery DVDs...

More easy and convenient with a tablet is to open the charm bar, chance PC settings, recovery and choose restart. You van do the same from there but also boot a efi device.

    Jacobw,

Glad you were able to get it working properly. As far as shipping recovery discs for units that do not have an optical drive, post that in the ideas section, it's not the first time that has been brought up. Smiley Happy

On my Acer Aspire 472P Laptop after Windows10 upgrade online from Win 8.1 , MS Office 2013 (Home and Student) did not work . I tried to repair under "Programs & Features" . Quick repair did not help so I tried online repair. In about an hour 75% of download was done . Further download was terminated on its own with a message - "Some thing went wrong . We ran into a problem . Please trying installing again . Sorry ".

Now I do not find MS Office 2013 (Home and Student) in "Programs & Features". This appears to have vanished . Therefore I can not even try to repair (quick or online). Unfortunately I do not have a copy of MS Office 2013 (Home and Student) media (USB/DVD), as this was downloaded/installed online with a "Product Key Code" provided by the "Acer" while buying this laptop one year back .

What to do further to get back MS Office 2013 (Home and Student) again on my laptop ?

Please advise . Thanks in advance.

Use the same CD Key you did before, but download Office here. That will get it reinstalled.
