V3 shows up on phone's WiFi settings?

Earlier, my brother noticed that our WiFi was not working correctly and while he was looking through the settings on his phone, he noticed my the name of my laptop and was able to connect to it.

I've never seen the name of my laptop on my phone or iPad before, and even now, it doesn't appear. Any idea how this may have happened and what I can do to keep my laptop from showing on anyone's WiFi list? Thanks.

    fearthephenom,

In your wireless networks that are listed, you should be able to tell it to connect automatically or not. I would suggest going through your wireless network settings to make sure it is not set to join networks in range without notification, especially open networks.

I'm not sure whether you misunderstood my issue or if I misunderstood your response.

I don't want my laptop to show on any devices. Before, only my brother's cell phone could see my laptop, but I'm now able to see it on my iPad as well. The connection is unprotected. I would like to keep my laptop invisible to all other devices.

I have tried going into my Network and Sharing Center > Change Advanced Sharing Center > and selected Turn Off Network Discovery. This has not changed the issue.

by the way, your laptop is acting like an hotspot.

Sorry, I am using Windows 10.

A hotspot, yes. I don't know why that slipped my mind, but yeah... that's what it's doing.

Under Network and Sharing Center, it lists my router as active and public network.

Under my WiFi network list, there are a total of ten networks listed. Two of which are my router and my actual laptop, the rest are neighbor's and hidden addresses. I'm not sure if it's important or not, but my laptop is listed with a shield with an exlamation point inside.

    Thanks for the response.

Read the article and followed the instructions, but there was no change.

i think it's worth to try to uninstall the wifi adapter from device manager.

    windows logo key + x

    device manager

    click on network adapters

right click on your wifi adapter and choose uninstall, tick also to uninstall software if requested.

    reboot

let windows search for drivers automatically and check if this solves your issue.
