SATA 6 Gb/s or 3 Gb/s ???

Member Posts: 51 New User

I'm confused. Smiley Frustrated

I've ordered a Samsung 850 EVO SSD, but I don't know if my mainboard supports SATA 6 Gb/s or 3 Gb/s.

In the manual it says my computer support SATA II 3 Gb/s.

Then I downloaded a program that listed the specs on my computer and it said SATA/600 (=6 Gb/s).

My computer is:

Acer Aspire M3920 desktop, i3-2100, 3.10 Ghz, 4 years old.

Anyone that have the correct answer?

Does my computer or mainboard support SATA/600 or SATA/300?

Hey, I saw your reply a little bit late.

Yes, my HDD is Port 0 and is SATA III 6 GB/s. ( No wonder I was confused ). Smiley Happy

I'll open my pc-cabinet tomorrow and look for colored wires.

Thanks for your help. Smiley Very Happy

    Hello,

    Don't worry!

    Samsung SSD 850 EVO specifications:

    SATA 6 Gb/s, compatible with  SATA 3 Gb/s & SATA 1.5 Gb/s

Yes, I know my computer is compatibel with SATA 3, but if my computer/mainboard has no port with SATA 3, 6 Gb/s, I can not fully take advantege of the speed of a SSD, according the "data experts". Smiley Happy

According to Intel's homepage, Intel H67 Chipset (my computer) has 2 ports with SATA 3 and 4 ports with SATA 2?

    Still confused. Smiley Frustrated

Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.

I read in the specifications of Aspire M3920:

"It supports up to two SATA 6 GB/s connections."

You have 6 SATA connectors on your motherboard 2 blue and 4 black.

Blue: SATA 0 to 1 --> 6Gb/s. Your actual HDD may be on SATA 0.

    Black: SATA2 to 5 --> 3Gb/s
