    My Aspire 5250 isn't that old, got it in 2012, upgraded to Windows 10, and the Lan driver isn't compatable...  Need a more up to date Lan driver to get to my router directly and not through WiFi...

      have you tried to uninstall the drivers from Device manager?

       

      enter device manager, click on network adapters, right click your Atheros Lan adapter and choose uninstall, tick also to uninstall software if asked.

       

      reboot and check if windows 10 is capable to find a compatible driver.
