Has there been any response from ACER whether it will support WIN 10 for the Aspire S7-391?

Holding off on the download of Win 10 until I hear from ACER.

    If Acer doesn't have the model on their list of models that will be getting new customized drivers, you should use Microsoft as your source for compatibility. If MS says it's ready for the upgrade and there's no unsupported drivers, you should be good to go.

    Thanks for your reply. But that doesn't really answer my question as to whether ACER has had any response to quite a few complaints. Also, there have been (based on my perusal of this forum) numerous problems and complaints from those who have gone ahead with the WIN 10 download for this machine.

    Acer has responsibility only for those systems they have announced. Others may need to get drivers elsewhere or revert to earlier Acer drivers (Intel DPTF drivers for Clover Trail devices is a good example).

    I believe that their list of models supported IS their response, even if it's not what you wanted to hear, wrable.

     

    When the list was created, models were omitted because of technical limitations (chiefly, drivers unavailable from their component OEMs -- or that it doesn't have sufficient processing capabilities to run W10, under Microsoft's specifications for W10). That's why suggestions were made about where the drivers could be obtained elsewhere.

     

    My suspicion is that drivers weren't available from 1 or more component OEMs, which may or may not be resolved at any time in the future. (The S7-391 drivers were dated early 2012 or early 2013, as compared with the S7-392 drivers which date from mid 2013 through 2014.)

     

    Bottom line: Acer isn't going to engineer drivers themselves, just to make a 3 year old machine current. Their position is clear -- if it wasn't on that list, no amount of protest will likely change their minds.

     

    (BTW, they don't even list the datasheet for S7-391 on Acer.com any more.)

    Sometimes all you need are the Acer drivers from the previous OS. Others you need to go to the Vendor (Intel, Broadcom, etc.). Also new drivers are coming along daily. I had no problem updating my 2010 vintage Aspire One 532h netbook and now drivers are available for CloverTrail tabs.

    Should be glad they provide support at all for five year old netbooks like mine. From what I am seeing Win 8-8.1 drivers work fine in Win 10.

     

    OTOH my aluminum MacBook is the oldest that supports Yosemite.
