Hello,

You might have heard of the Stagefright vulnerability affecting most Android devices.

My ACER E700 E39 just received a new system update, 1.0.26.

What is it about ? (Nothing found on acer.com or the internet in general. See bellow.)

Does it update Stagefright ? In what way ?

If not what does Acer plan with respect to Stagefright?

Anyway, thank you for updating that device.

Best regards

Olivier

NEW Android version: 4.4.2

NEW Build number: Acer_AV0K0_E39_1.026.00_EMEA_GEN1

NEW Kernel version:

To check, here is what I did (US-site / English): Go to: 1. http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers 2. Click "Or select my product from a list" 3. Group = "Smartphone" 4. Series = "Liquid E700" 5. Products = "E39" 6 At the bottom it will show "Driver", "Document" etc. None of the files/documents was related to 1.026 or dated August 2015.

Hello, i get an update too, 6,05MB.

But after the reset the system says it is not trustworthy and asks for root acess. Is this a real update or some sort of virus?

    I installed the update.

Before the update Stagefright Detector found 5/7 open CVEs.

After the update it still finds CVE-2015-3864 open about every second time it checks. Otherwise it says "Not Vulnerable".

So this update is definitely about Stagefright but I'm not sure if it fixes all issues properly.

Thank you very much for the very useful info. It made me install the Stagefright Detector from Zimperium INC.

In some runs, it reports CVE-2015-3864 (same as yours). Uuh, I'd expect results to be consistents... Here are the varying results I got (V=Vulnerable, 7 runs; NV=Not Vulnerable, 5 runs):

    V; V; NV; V; V; V; NV; V; NV; NV; V

I think its to do with Stagefright to, my phone was running 1.025, and all CVS showing as vulnerable, now after running Zimperium stagefright detector app on the 3864 showing as vulnerable, rerun app couple of times, same result everytime. I remember reading the 3864 is a newly found variant of Stagefright, which they have recently included there app test, so I doubt any fix for that particular variant at time of writing.
