Lost pre-installed windows 8.1 single language with Bing

I contacted Microsoft Answer Desk a few days ago because I had a problem with certian update namely KB3000850 on my Acer Aspire Switch 10 that has windows 8.1 single language with Bing pre-installed. The technician suggested that she starts a remote session and I agreed thinking she would be able to resolve the issue. She took a few steps and made a few changes and to be honest she tried every possible method she knows and stayed online with me quite long but in vain. The only mistake she made is that she provided to me a link to upgrade windows 10. Here comes the problem. The installation took 24 hours or so to finish and when it is done I found that it wiped out all Acer's services including recovery option and the option to go back to windows 8.1 when all I done is hit upgrade because the setup window has no clean install option. I accordingly had to buy another device since I depend entirely on my laptop for my work. When I bought the new hybrid laptop which is Asus I made a recovery usb to solve the issue. Fortunately, I could get back windows 8.1 by resetting the pc because I could 't perform system restore. The problem is the new windows requires an activation key which I don't have and of course I couldn't get back Acer's services. I also downloaded media creation from Microsoft site but the setup window asked for product key. Another problem is when I tried to sign in to my Asus with Microsoft account the desktop changes to Acer's with all its content even the battery sign that I didn't really know that Asus battery still recharging because the Acer battery was full. I'm sorry for talking too much but I've been struggling to solve this issue the past week. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You will need to contact Acer or call MS support, explaining what has happened and request a new Win10 license key. I have an Aspire P3 and was never able to run the repair in 8.1 (not sure if this was always the case from 8 or only since 8.1). When I ran the Win10 update it got so far and then failed, but when it tried to go back to the previous install it couldn't so I was locked into a continuous reboot loop. I'm not sure whether this is MS or Acer's fault but the only solution for me was a fresh install which like you, required a new key. I have a developers MSDN subscription so I could get a Win10 key. It is only supposed to be used for development purposes but as MS screwed up my tablet, I feel they owe me a key so I'm not going to feel bad about it.

Thanks for responding. I'm glad that you won't feel bad about the key Smiley Happy Microsoft really deserves it. In fact, I did what you suggested and they told me you should have backed up before downloading and I told them that their technician didn't say anything about that and insisted that I finish the setup process till the end. So, They apologized (???!!!) saying that there is no solution for this problem. As for Acer, I'm trying to reach them via chat, since my country has no agent for their products, and I can never reach them. It seems that the only way is to buy a new windows cd. Thanks anyways.

I suggest you don't give up and ask for the issue to be escalated within MS. Send them a photo of your tablet asking for the key and tell them it is not possible to buy the tablet without Windows pre-installed and therefore you need to get back to the point where you have a working OS. MS want everyone to upgrade to 10 and you have done what they wanted, generating a new key for you without cost is the least they can do!

    Good luck.
