I have an Acer Aspire S3-391-6046 and am wondering if it is eligible for a free Windows 10 upgrade?  (i.e. Was the stock Windows 8.1 installed with the PC actually Win 8.1 RT? How do I find out?

Thanks,

Jim

    jlandwehr61,

The system in question is not on Acer's eligible model list, but that doesn't mean that it cannot be upgraded. What that means is Acer will not be providing driver support for the upgrade to Windows 10. In fact I upgraded one of our S3-391 notebooks here for Windows 10 use and it is working just fine. Smiley Happy

Thanks Justin. It turns out that you need to load the latest win8.1 updates before the Eligible for 10 icon shows up in the taskbar. It did, I upgraded and the netbook works better than ever. Best regards, Jim

I think Acer need to get their act together on this.

Its crazy that they are not providing updates for the S3-391 yet they are giving updates for much lower spec laptops that can barely run windows 7 nevermind 10

If their testing showed that the S3-391 didn't need new drivers for Windows 10, they wouldn't have to put it on the list of machines they'll provide new drivers for... Typically when they need to provide new drivers it's because it's got old hardware.

It's now March 2016 and it still isn't on the eligible list, but I'm going to upgrade my s3 391 to Windows 10 this week, Windows 8/8.1 is fast becoming a dodo.

So you managed to get Windows 10 to install?

I have been trying for months and cannot even get the upgrade to run. It keeps error-ing out.

Is there any trick to getting it to work?

Didn't happen - I had a couple of issues with the S3, it went to Acer to check a different problem out and it came back with the Microsoft Composite Battery driver missing. Battery still charges so I'm going to have a go (on holiday at the moment). I also have the Windows upgrade message in the tray so it's been identified as upgradeable (I think!) Have you run the Windows Update Troubleshooter? I had an issue when upgrading to 8.1 and running Troubleshooter seemed to sort it.

Finally did the upgrade today and it seemed to go Ok without any problems so far. Apparently I need to install Dolby Home Theatre again, but I'm not worried about that, and there appears to be a missing Qualcom Atheros Buetooth driver but I don't use bluetooth either.

A few weeks on and everything seems fine; bluetooth works, SD card reader works etc. With the 500Gb SSD drive and Windows 10, the S3 an impressive little ultrabook!

Hi MACMAC1, just wondering what you did to make Bluetooth work on the S3-391 with Windows 10. Which version of the Atheros driver did you end up using? My bluetooth is greyed out in Device Manager, does not recognize any devices or show up in the settings menu.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

I just restored my S3-391 to factory defaults with the restore CDs.  It looks like it's still on Windows 8.  How do I upgrade to Windows 8.1?  Thanks for any tips.
