Win 7 clean install

Hello,

sorry if this has been brought up a lot before - how do I do a Win 7 clean install with HDD format with OEM OS?

My idea was to create a deployable USB, but I soon found that MS will not really let me download an image of an OEM OS, and will have me turn to the OEM provider for this end. I briefly went through Acer tech support but found no way of obtaining (online) the image. Is there some way I missed, or is there different (simpler) procedure for a clean install?

Thank you.

Ddn't you make a copy of the Win 7 startup when you got the computer?  It should have been on ~4 DVDs.

if you already formatted your HDD, the only way to re-install OEM OS is to buy Acer erecovery:

    Acer recovery media
if you are in the US you can buy it:
    http://store.acer.com/store/aceramer/en_US/eRecovery

if you are outside the US, you must call/email your regional Acer support service:

No, I didn't make a copy of a Win startup, since the laptop is sort of a legacy, I didn't have a chance to. I also have no system installation discs or pretty much any other SW that might have come with the new laptop. WIndows installation on the laptop will only allow me to make something I believe is called "windows restoration disc" or something like that - not enough to warrant a clean install at any rate.

And no, I did not format the HDD up till now, so I suppose this leaves me some options open...?

You'll find that there hasn't been any physical backup media supplied with new computers for quite a few years.  I think the HP and Dells I bought in '07 and '08 did but nothing since.  The backup OS you have to make using your own DVDs or USB flash drive.

The WIn 7 recovery disk is usualy on 4 DVDs (in my experience) and enough to give you the full OS and some packaged apps.

Try to press ALT+F10 keys at boot and check if Acer erecovery is still able to boot, if so, it will re-install OS as it was from factory.

@ terenz: I would be fine with making my own installation media, but the (original OEM) Win7 installation will not allow me to create them; only the "recovery" disc which is not enough to make a clean install. So I went to Microsoft site to download ISO image for my Windows copy and it (obviously) refused to hand it to me, directing me to my OEM SW provider (Acer in this case) instead. I am kind of stuck from here on.

@ ACE IronFly: Thanks, will give it a shot when I have a chance. Just to be clear - is there a chance erecovery will work after a HDD format?

Nope, if you formatted the HDD.

The only solution is to buy Acer erecovery disks or find someone that can give you a windows 7 installation media.

OK, thank you for the information; that's probably a problem solved then ;-)
