    Hello,

The Aspire ZG8 is an Aspire One D250. The height of the original HDDs is 9.5mm.

The height of the SSD stated is 7.0mm so you can install it without any problem.

    Dimensions: 2.75 x 3.96 x 0.28 in. (69.85mm x 100.5mm x 7.0 mm).

Sata 3.0 is backward compatible with SATA 2.0. You'll find videos and a guide in the support tab.

    Thank you.

I was asked, by a shop assistant, whether the Acer's main board would be able to take the increased throughput from the SSD?

    Should I worry about this?

    Hello,

As I wrote, SATA 3.0 is backward compatible with SATA 2.0. The new SSD will work in SATA 2.0 (3Gb/s).

I spoke too soon. Started to do all the Windows Updates when a mechanical buzzing (not buzzing from speakers)followed by BSOD. Now happens most of the time; now cannot even get into Safe Mode. Machine just hangs; only seems to show images but not much text e.g. a menu structure shows and the little arrows, click on the arrow and sub arrows show but no text. Buzzing seems to come from near the odd shaped flap on bottom of the netbook. See this:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXp3ZNMMbm8 about 40 secs in the guy removes a flap and a unit before undoing further screws. I have looked at the unit he removed but all the writing is just numbers or Chinese so I have no idea of what it does. I am not sure the buzzing comes from this unit its just that it is in this area. Any ideas?

Just found I can get to Safe Mode with Command prompt. From that ran chkdsk and found new SSD has no problems.

    Hello,

I watched the video. The part showed is a WLAN board.

If it's a mechanical buzzing, I think rather it's the fan or the ODD.

There is no ODD. Could faulty fan cause BSOD even at startup i.e. machine is cold?

    Hello,

"Could faulty fan cause BSOD even at startup i.e. machine is cold? ": No - Do you hear it rotating?

Could you post here a picture of the BSOD (picture of the screen)?

    Hello,

    BSOD issue:

    - Remove the battery

    - Check that the memory stick is correctly inserted and locked

What OS do you use? The original OS is Windows XP.

If it's possible, you could use HWMONITOR portable version (no installation) - zip folder to check the fan speed.

    Os Windows 7 Starter Sp1.

    Can't get beyond BSOD.

    Will HWMONITOR work without Windows?

In this case, you can try with HWINFO for DOS. I don't know if you'll see the speed fan.

Have you checked the memory stick?

I tried to run scannow but it said could as waiting for a repair. So decided to reinstall OS. Just at last processes for that. See if it runs without any updates.

It is now installing 40 processes, including a number of Windows updates; I cant seem to stop without just switching off. I did ask not to do any Windows updates until I was ready!!

SATA on BIOS is set as IDE or AHCI?
SSD has firmware updated to latest version?
BIOS on laptop is the latest?

Let windows run its updates and check if it BSOD again.
    I'm not an Acer employee.
