I want to get a new Acer Tablet since my older A1-810 is wearing down on me, is the Iconia Tab 8 worth it? I want to know what you guys think about it and tell me if I should do get it or not. Can you also ask me how much bloatware (Number of Apps preinstalled) and of you have any issues for it? Thanks.

I got my Acer A1-840FHD last month and I would not say that it's worth it nor could I say that I hate it too...

    Here's what I don't like:

    1. Battery life is pretty weak. You're going have to recharge it everyday if you are going to play games with it and browse some website. I played PVZ2 and post pictures and browse posts in facebook. View some videos.

    2. The back tend to heat up a lot if you are going to play games with it. Once I bought a leather casing for it, I couldn't feel it much though...

    3. There's no news yet on when we will get Lollipop update for this tablet. Smiley Sad We need it badly since our tablet is 64bit capable. Upgrading to lollipop would maximize the power of our tablet.

    4. The pre-installed apps can't be uninstalled! Though those apps can be disabled to prevent further updates. They don't consume much space.

Aside from the ones listed above, I could say that the tablet is pretty much what I wanted. But if there's another alternative out there with the same price range then I would grab it in place of this one. Smiley Happy

I picked up Costco version this last week, so have only been playing with it for a few days. I started it with a full charge before even doing the setup and didn't plug it back in for the first four days. It had dropped to about 20% during scattered use (mostly web browsing) in that time. There is some bloatware, as with pretty much all Android devices, but nothing that has gotten in my way yet. Love the high res screen! Though I know that it'll cause shorter intervals between charges than with my A100 or B1-710. Pixels suck power... Smiley Happy

    "Pixels suck power..."

    You are definitely correct billsey!

Though I only wish Acer thought about that too and increase the battery capacity a bit since it's FHD! Smiley Sad

Theres 2 versions of the device and HD cheaper version and the FHD version the battery isnt that great but it isnt bad it usally last like 6 1/2-8 hrs for me as long as you dont play highly graphical games too long or have the brightness up and change some of the settings for the device then the battery should last a while.

    Hi MrPikachu1998,

Yes it is really a 64bit tablet.

But sad to say it's only Kitkat and NOT Lollipop.

Getting it to Lollipop is hopeless as of the moment since there are no news about any development for Acer tabs on Lollipop. I don't really know why they are so left behind? Smiley Sad

Yes, its rather a mystery as to win this tablet will be getting the lollipop update, but considering the not so perfect battery life on this tablet, I wouldnt want to get lollipop anyway!

But this is the latest in the Iconia Tab A1 series so its definetly a must buy the specs are incredible and it can run most games lag free! So I would totally recommend you to get this device!

    And yes its x64/86

Sonic, I think getting the Lollipop update is important for our device.

I heard that the update would increase the battery life. I think it's most probably because it is a 64 bit OS and in a 64 bit device. It would be take advantage of the 64 bit architecture capabilities. Though this is only my guess. I'm no computer engineer. hehe... Smiley Very Happy

You are indeed correct mike, this is a very important update for intel x86 devices but at the same time Acer is just releasing new tablets that have the same specs as previous generation tablets but with lollipop and simply just avoiding to release OTA updates for the original devices, so I think its going to be a very long time before 5.0 is released for this device!

Well I'm still deciding between this and the 10 inch model version. us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/NT.L5FAA.001

Its most likely I'll probably go with 8 inch but I'm still deciding on the 10 inch. Is the 10 inch model 64 bit?

    Hi MrPikachu,

The 10 inches model you mentioned is not equiped with the intel processor.

It has MediaTek MT8127 Quad-core and based on the information here... http://www.mediatek.com/en/products/mobile-communications/tablet/mt8127/ ... I think it's not a 64bit processor.

But if you really want a 10" tablet and you can wait, I heard that Acer is going to release an Intel based 10" Iconia.

It's equiped with 1.83 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3735F processor, which is a 64bit processor.

    Hope that helped.

Yes the  Iconia Tab 10 A3-A30 model has lollipop equipped as well as an x64/86 intel proccesor inside! Really the Tab 8 FHD/HD would be a good choice in terms of portability but really both the Tab 10 and Tab 8 are almost equally good to buy!

I can wait until the 8 inch tablet releases and more tech specs are revealed.

Besides Battery and bloatware for maybe the 8 inch. Both are really interested.

NOOOO. It is not nor was it worth it. Acer ABANDONED this tablet. 18 months and still NO FIX for the Android stagefright vulnerability? Why not? It is bad enough that it will never be updated to lollipop but to never fix a known serious security problem?  This is my last acer ever! Why buy from a company that does not care about their products the moment you leave the store?
