Hi! Any idea when will acer release lollipop update for the device?

I can't believe there's still no news about it when most major manufacturers have already released update to lollipop. Smiley Frustrated

EDIT: Forgot to mention that this particular tablet is 64 bit capable and an update to Lollipop is vital to maximize it's capability as 64 bit. Smiley Very Happy

Hope we can hear some good news on the update soon! Thanks! Smiley Very Happy

    mike21,

I don't see any release notifications that the A1-840 will be getting any update. I do not have any ETA on the release of Lollipop for any devices. I can only suggest you continually check for updates on your device or check our support website for the most up to date operating system downloads we have for devices.

I hope you made a mistake and actually meant the A1-840, also that's all you guys tell us to do, "continue checking for updates or check the support website" well we need a straight forward answer on when or will Acer be releasing Lollipop for these devices because we need then especially for these Intel devices you guys are starting to put out!

Indeed! What we really need to know is if Acer is going to ever going release lollipop updates for our Intel 64 bit tablets?

Is there any plan or no plan at all?

I have a dutch a1-840fhd, and it tells me there is a 228Mb update available. It has some dual app modus. I don't know if this is Lolipop 5.0 specific, or android 4.4.x..

When I accept to download it, I get an error message:

    try again later

    0001:503

Any idea how to solve this? I have been trying for days now.

Can I download the update manually and install using USB or SD Card?

    Hi Oscar,
I highly doubt that it's a lollipop update.

Dual app modus or you mean split screen update of acer?

Is your tablet new? When I got my tablet, I have to download 2 big updates.

Maybe there's some problem with your wifi connection?

Try to update manually by going to Settings->About tablet->System updates->Check Now

    Thanks for the tip.

I meant the splitscreen update. Manually downloading failed. But I downloaded a .zip from the acer support website and installed the update.

After the update, trying to "Settings->About tablet->System updates->Check Now" , still says there is a 228Mb update available, which still does not get downloaded, showing the 001:... error code.

But i have the update manually installed, and more games are now working :-)

You must be rooted if you couldn't update it from the system updater itself, I know I can't update to get the split screen function unless I root my device because when the device restarts to install the update it stops midway with an error message, but I'll see if it'll work this time doing what you did manually installing it through zip, so thanks!

no, not rooted. Tablet is one week old, and so it has just the factory installed software. Only the first minor update worked using the auto-update. The big update only worked using the .zip. Hope it helps for you too

    Hi.

I just bought this tablet it was a surprise because i got it for 159€ and i really like the screen, but after seeing that there are no plans to bring android 5.x to it, i think i will sell it quick and get one that will.

Maybe a Nexus 9, i know it is more than double the price, but i guess it will not be obsolete for a good while.

Unlike this acer that is already over due for a decent update, shame because it is really appealling at this price range, but not without support.

Unless the Nexus 9 you want to buy can already support Vulkan (open GL DirectX 12 equiavalent) you are spending twice the money for not a lot of performance gain. That's be a feat because Vulkan isn't released yet, while DirectX 12 just released today, 29 Jul 2015.

Just trying to save you a hassle and money for a minor upgrade.

The performance on the nexus 9 is just about greater than the shield, I'd rather have the nexus 9 than this piece of garbage I'm so glad I'm getting my nexus 9 from amazon next week, I love Acer I truly do heck I have 2 of the aspire laptops and I'm using an Acer desktop monitor but its really annoying to still be on KitKat and it to have an outdated Intel processor (I'm using the iconia tab 8 HD model) I can't even run asphalt 8 without no lag, heck I'm just glad I don't need to have to go through the process of throwing the tablet away, I'm kindly giving it to the neighborhood kids across the street from me!

    What does that even means?!

Why are you mentioning microsoft win10 features?!

I still have this tablet. My wife uses it, but bought the nexus.

At this time we have been informed that the following units will be getting the Lollipop update:

    A3-A30
    B1-820

I had a chat with Acer Support and it seems that the Devs there are working on a Lollipop update. The rep said that it will be released at the end of this year, but he doesn't have an ETA.

    [edited to comply with guidelines]

So, I hope that answers the question. The update is coming, but later in the year.

    bargom,

I have passed a message along in regards to this chat to make sure that the agents are reminded what tablets are currently listed for the Lollipop update so that accurate responses can be given. At this time the only units still listed are the A3-A30 and B1-820, if that changes I will do my best to update the thread for everyone, but at this time I have not been informed of any other tablets being added to the list or in the works as of yet.

Yeah guys... Acer you guys are horrible. I bought the tablet at Costco and returned it due to the lackluster support... Why spend money on a tablet if aver is not going to support it... It's really a shame because it's a good tablet... Just the support is horrible. Last aver I will buy...

Not going to happen. ACER has a tradition not update OS from 1 version to the next after the hardware model older than 1 year. Only solution is write to CM community ask them help create a version of CM for the tablet.

That's why many people avoid buying ACER tablets, evem their laptop. The reason is ACER has a bad raputation not support after market when model older than 1 year old.
