5700 aspire not booting to windows can't use recovery cd
I have an Aspire 5742 running Windows 7 Home Prem
When I try to boot into windows I get a message from the windows boot manager
File: \windows\system32\config\system
Status: 0xc000000d
Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missinig, or corrupt.
All information I've found about this says to boot to the rescue cd and restore. But the rescue cd won't boot. It comes up to the same screen as above. I've used a Live CD from another operating system to test the dvd drive and it is working and the live cd boots (I did not install anything). How do I get the live cd to boot and restore windows?
Thanks Tim

The computer will not boot into the recovery partition. I get the same error as above. Alt+F8 will not allow me to boot into safe mode either. Just in case my restore disks were at fault, I had purchased media from acer. These also do not work.
I've seen stuff on the web about copying the SYSTEM file from backup is this an okay thing to do?

It is not sure if copying the system files will work. The best way out is to contact Acer service center using the link posted in the previous reply for further assistance.

use other normal windows7 to make a System Repair Disc for Windows 7(http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-create-a-system-repair-disc-for-windows-7.html)
use the repair disc to boot up your PC
use a command prompt and type "chkdsk c: /f"
after automaic repair and the reboot your PC

The system repair disk runs endlessly looking for an operating system. I never reach a point to goto the command prompt.
I'm at my wits end. Should I just buy a windows 7 install and start fresh. This is a doable option for me if it would work.
Thanks for all the help so far.

It's a memory problem, I think, as I ran a memory test the machine unexpectedly shut down. For now I have to explore this direction and get back to reinstalling later.
Thanks to everyone for the help.
