Its probably soft bricked, did you root it unsuccessfully or try to flash a ROM with it if so that probably is causing the issue other than that you might gotta get it fixed from Acer its free of you have a warranty I believe!

You may try a factory reset on your tablet.

The following steps will erase all of your personal information, all stored contacts and any programs you have installed on your tablet.

Use the following steps to perform a factory data reset using a key combination on boot.

    Power off the tablet.
Press and hold the Volume up button, which is located closest to the touch screen lock switch.
While holding the Volume up button, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume up button.
Once the tablet screen turns on, stop holding the buttons.
On the Android system recovery <3e> screen, select wipe data/factory reset. Use the Volume up and Volume down keys to navigate through the menus and use the Power button to select the desired option.
When prompted to "Confirm wipe of all user data", select Yes -- delete all user data.
    Select reboot system now.

Once the tablet reboots to the Welcome screen, follow the onscreen steps to setup your tablet.

I didn't try rooting or flashing the ROM. I gave the tablet to my mom to use and when she brought it back the tablet decided to go off. I was thinking because the firmware was not updated

Sounds like the OS is corrupted, which may or may not be fixable. Are you sure you are pressing the right keys to get it into recovery mode? It's a bit ambiguous which volume key to hold.
