Cannot get eRecovery to install to new HDD for Aspire AM5800

Hello,

My original HDD failed so I purchased a new one and bought the eRecovery disks from the Acer store but when I run through the install I get an error saying "Windows could not complete the installation", found another post here saying to clean the new HDD which I tried but still getting the same error.  Same post suggested manually kicking off MSOOBE which also gets stuck with the same error.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

    Hello Laurent,

Thank you for the pointer, I had not checked YouTube, yes those are the steps I followed, my error occurs after the disks have all been read and windows is trying to configure itself.

    Hello Martin,

I asked the opinion of another expert (IronFly).

Have you the possibility to try with another HDD?

    Hi Laurent,

I have tried with 2 HDD, although identical ones, after my original 750GB HDD failed I bought 2 new 1TB's and was wanting to have them in a raid, when the install kept failing I disabled the raid to only have 2 HDD's, I've tried installing to both and get the same error on both... I'm beginning to suspect that the fact that I have 1TB drive is somehow the issue... I may need to see if I can borrow a 500GB drive from a friend to see if I can try and install to that.

Also just to expand on the windows error that I get, when I am doing the recovery/install, I get Windows error "Windows could not complete the installation.  To install windows on this computer restart the installation" when I do restart it seems to want to continue to install and then says "Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware'.  The only difference in the hardware setup is the 2 1TB HDD vs the original 1 750GB.

Another thought on my issue, following the suggestion from the other post I wiped the HDD so that I only have a single partition, is the recovery perhaps looking to copy stuff to the usually existing recovery partition?  Should I create a 2nd partiton?  If yes what size & name (if name matters).

Nope, the HDD must be without any partition, just raw unallocated space.

about 1TB HDD issue....maybe it's a chipset limitation, i doubt but who knows???

try with an HDD of the same size of the original.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
