Aspire 7750G BSOD - GPU crashing - can't update

Hi, I'm new here!

I'm having a problem with my product as the subject states. It started when I was playing an online game while having other apps running. I'm definitely sure that it's my gpu that's causing my system to crash since I disabled it in BIOS and now I'm only using the intergrated graphics, and it works pretty fine. No BSOD while playing/from windows start up, unlike when I was on switchable graphics mode. Before I did this solution just so I can use my laptop, I've already tried updating my graphics driver but to no avail, it fails and I always get BSOD upon restarting. Any thoughts on how can I possibly update my driver successfully?

Acer Aspire 7750G
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
Inter Core i5-2450M
AMD Radeon HD 7670M, 1GB
8GB DDR3

P.S. It's not an overheating issue since my GPU temp only goes around 60c-70c when in game(Ragnarok Online 2) + Chrome + Skype + Raidcall + Line
Updating the driver gives me atikmpag.sys BSOD error on start up

    linusfatale,

I can really only suggest some disassembly to make sure that the fan that cools the GPU is clean. I understand that you say it's not overheating, but 60-70C (140 degrees F) is pretty warm, it sounds like it's not getting the cooling it needs.

    Hello!

I really don't think it has something to do with the fan, since I can't even use it now. I'm getting atikmpag.sys BSOD on Windows startup regardless I update the driver or not.

    linusfatale,

Are you using the most up to date BIOS version we have posted for that unit, 1.21 dated 11/13/2012?

I tried what you suggested but still no luck! I've updated my BIOS to 1.21 but still having the atikmpag.sys error on startup when I'm on switchable graphics.

    linusfatale,

We have qualified the driver that should be posted for that AMD chipset with the original operating system that shipped on that unit. It's hard to troubleshoot a retail operating system using the AMD manufactured driver versus our operating system and our driver, unfortunately.

From what I can tell it all appears to be a problem with the driver that AMD has for it, there are several solutions on the web that talk about editing the file name and such to resolve this issue. I can only suggest you search the internet and try one of them.
