    mp3master69,

The reason there are other BIOS versions offered is for newer models of that series that required different BIOS versions. What you are currently using is the latest and most current BIOS we have for your unit.

    mp3master69,

I've received a response to my research for this, the different BIOS version types are not interchangeable.

You are currently using the P02.A2, you can only use P02.xx BIOS version, you can't change to the P03.xx versions. What you are currently using is the latest and most current BIOS we have for your unit.

    Hi Acer Justin,

I am still very happy with my own DX-4860-UB33P.

However, I was thinking of upgrading my CPU to the Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7-3770 to get faster video/photo processing speeds.

If I read this thread correctly, since I cannot update the BIOS to P03.A3 (which supports Ivy Bridge and USB 3.0) does this mean that any attempt to upgrade from the Sandy Bridge i5-2320 CPU to the i7-3770 would be unsuccessful?

Thanks for your assistance on this in advance.

    Michael

    MichaelSeto,

Let me research that for you, but this desktop ships with the Intel H67 Sandy Bridge platform design and it "should" support Ivy Bridge processors. I will work with my desktop engineer to get a solid answer for you and reply.

    MichaelSeto,

I've received a response and the CPU you are wanting to upgrade to is supported. We haven't qualified it since we never shipped a system with that CPU in it, but it's supported by the BIOS installed on your system.

Awesome, thank you, that's great news. I'm going to pop the new CPU in later today and let you know if there are any issues. Thanks Acer Support!

Uh oh - I got four short beeps after I put the i7-3770 CPU into the board.

    According to AMI that means:

The system clock/timer IC has failed or there is a memory error in the first bank of memory

Any thoughts on next course of action?

    MichaelSeto,

I'm guessing if you put the original CPU it will work fine. There are troubleshooting steps online that talk about things to try, but I'm skeptical that it is going to work. Even though it's a supported CPU, it appears it wasn't qualified because there was an issue when using it.
