Hello.

I have recently gotten a Aspire V5-572G-6679 laptop off eBay. It was in such a good condition and everything was included i couldn't pass it up, but now I have a bit of an issue. The Webcam.

At first I wasn't sure there was even a webcam to begin with, but I noticed that there was what seemed to be a webcam cover on the monitor, looking closer I saw what seemed to resemble the purple like shine of a lense. I then checked to see if there was software, which I found Acer Crystal Eye, it told me I needed to connect a camera.

I then looked at my drivers on acer's site, and there was none. I'm also running the factory install that came with this laptop, so I have and updated the factory drivers.

However, I noticed in my Device Manager that there is a "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" and that occasionally when I turn the laptop on from a powered off state or Hibernate/Sleep State I get a notification that "A USB Device Malfunctioned" Both my USB ports work just fine, including everything that I have plugged into it (Mouse, Flash Drive, etc). So I'm certain that this is the webcam.

Is there anything I can do to attempt to get the Webcam to work? It's not a big need for me, but I would like to use it if I were to do Skype video calls on this laptop.

Thanks for any replies to help fix this issue.

Open device manager and check if webcam is displayed under Imaging devices.
If not right click on  empty space in device manger and chekc for hidden or disabled devices.
Right click the " unknow USB device" in device manager and uninstall it, click on Action tab in device manager and select scan for hardware changes. Restart your computer and chekc if the webcam is working.

    Sorry for the delayed response.

I have attempted your steps a few times. There is no "Imaging Devices" within my Device Manager.

Included is a screenshot of my Device Manager and the error that I am getting for what I believe is the webcam.Webcam.jpg

Thanks for the any additional help you can provide.

You need to check if the system has the orginal windwos that ws shipped from the factory. If the OS was changed then it could be an driver issue or internal hardware issue wiht the webcam device.

When I first got the system I performed a fresh install using the recovery partition that was included. The issue was still occuring and it also occured when running Linux (Ubuntu) and a fresh install of the Retail Windows 8.1.
