I have tried Safe Mode, Last Good Configuration, Internal Recovery, and self-created recovery disks.  It will not boot in Safe Mode or last good configuration.  When I try recovery (either way) a screen comes up that says "Please wait a moment" and does nothing else.  The spinning icon shows me it is "thinking", but it never finishes.  I have even let it run overnight, but no results.  Can anyone please help me?

    Good day

You need to replace your HDD as its faulty. Run HDD test using: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/#

How do I find out the serial number for my hard drive?  I have downloaded the tools you suggested, but I need to copy it to disk so I can use it on my desktop and I cannot seem to figure out how.  Can you help?

    Good day

You dont need the serial number of the HDD. Also if your machine is out of warranty with Acer, the HDD will also be out of warranty with seagate because Acer carries the warranty, not seagate. The image that you download is an ISO, so do you have CD burning software on your machine such as NTI, Nero, etc? If you do, just double click on the image and burn to cd.

Thank you.  I actually figured out the "image" and ISO before your reply.  I burned it to disc using Roxio, but it too will not load on my damanged computer???  I believe you are correct and I will have to replace the HDD.  Any other suggestions will be appreciated.  I cannot purchase a new HDD at this time, so I will try anything free or really cheap.
