Sound problem on 8930g with Win 8.1

I have an 8930G which has the 5.1 sound system.

I have just updated my OS to Win 8.1 and now find that the sound has gone weird on me.

It is very muffled and sounds lke it is only coming from the subwoofer speaker when I play a video or sound file.

However when I run the Realtek Sound manager all of the speakers sound when I run a test.

I am currently running the Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.5983_Win7x86x64_AS8930G drivers.

Has anyone any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Thanks

As Acer doesn't supply drivers for the 8930g with 8.1, you're going to have to try drivers until you find the right one.

    You could start here: http://drp.su/drivers/notebooks/?v=Acer&m=Aspire%208930G&id=33088&l=en

Scroll down until you find the sound drivers.

    Thanks for the link.

I could not see any audio drivers on that page, and there was no scroll facility.

Apart from the drivers on the page all they seemed to offer was a link to a driver pack - which was quite large (3GB).

What I find strange about the problem is that the same driver I used in Win7 has diffeent problems in Win 8 and Win8.1.

The sound was acceptable in Win 8, but with the same hardware the sound is so unclear in 8.1 that it is unuseable.

uninstall the Acer Realtek drivers, download this and try to install:

    Thanks Ironfly.

I'll download that and try it and let you now how I get on.

In the meantime I have a different problem.

This morning I went to the laptop to find a fatal error blue screen and I cannot boot into 8.1. (says a file or device is missing), and win 8.1 install media cannot repair it.

I had done a clean install of 8.1 on a separate drive, so I've had to re-boot to Win 8 and will have to re-install 8.1 again Robot Sad .

    Thanks so much.

It is not perfect, but I now have the same sound as was in my previous Win 8 setup.

    Thanks again. Cat Happy
