eRecovery hangs on "updating system". I have an Acer 4775 Flex 2. I can partially run eRecovery.

I have an Acer 4775 Flex 2.  It will not boot into Windows 7.  I can get into eRecovery Management (ALT + F10).  I select the factory restore and it takes about 8 hours to complete the restoring section.  Then there is an "Updating System" portion to get through and this is what fails.  It just hangs and will not continue.  If I reboot at this point, I still can't boot into Windows.  I made DVDs to restore to factory settings, but going into the BIOS and changing the boot selection to the DVD drive, does not work.  Any chance of breathing life back into this laptop?

when if hangs on updating system, try to press windows key logo + d

this will force system to desktop, so you can check if any prompt need a confirmation input.

Thank you for such a quick response!  I am impressed!

Pressing the Windows icon key + d is a Windows 8 function.  Unfortunately, this Acer laptop is Windows 7.  However, since my problems began, I have never been able to get into Windows.  So even if the Windows key + d did work on Windows 7, I do not think I would be able to get into my operating system.  Did you mean to try this with Windows 7 ?

    alt+tab or ctrl+shift+esc

normally this works to check if something is hidden under the main screen.

Thank you for your reply.  I really can't get into Windows at all.  I can get to the place where I can boot into safe mode by pressing F8.  However, it take a while to get there and when I am in safe mode (with or without a command prompt), all I see is a black window.  No icons, just a black screen.

I think the hard drive is fried.
