How Do You know if the fan is working?

I have an acer aspire v5.  I recently blew out the fan because it seemed to be getting really hot.  Now, I can't hear the fan?   I'm hard of hearing though.  Is there a way I can go in and test that the fan is working?

run speed fan, so you can check fan rpm:

Either I'm not running the program right, or it doesn't show the fans at all

not good, seems like fan is not detected, like rpm sensor is dead.

    let's try the last one:

    http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

select (x86 or x64) the portable version and run it.

when you start hwinfo, select sensor only, it will pop up, sensor temperature and fan rpm.

Yes, scroll down and check if any fan is listed, you will see a small fan icon.

Fan detection programs often have problems running on laptops, and Acer seem to be especially bad; it's actually completely normal not to see any listed, I'd be more surprised if they were.

Given your idling temperature is around 70°C I'm going to guess your fan isn't spinning properly. I have the same problem with an Aspire E1. I'm pretty much convinced it's due to Acer messing up fan control in the BIOS.

This how I checked my fan still worked. Note, I'm booting Windows 7 in Legacy mode, boot up is a little different for Windows 8 on a UEFI install (don't worry if you don't understand the technical jargon), so it might not work the same way for you:

Let the machine get hot by running Windows for a while (ideally until your temps are 80°C or more), then restart the machine. Right after turning the laptop on, before Windows starts, you should notice the fan come on. As you're hard of hearing, if you can't hear it hold the back of your hand by the fan vent and you should notice more air flow.

I'm pretty sure it's out.  It got hot and shut down on me.  I actually still have a warrenty (I coudln't believe it was still good.  So, I'm sending her in for repair!  That was such a relief!  You basically have to take the whole computer apart just to get to the fan.  lol!  Thank ya'll for replying.  You are AWESOME!
