I purchased my new laptop (Acer Aspire ES1-512) less than a week a go, windows recently updated to 8.1 when i was shutting the computer down, it said that the updates were complete but when i went back on the next day my sound had gone and my control panel doesnt function and neither will the PC Settings.......i dont know what to do, ive tried going into CMD Promt and tried sfc /scannow but that wont even begin to work. Should i just take it to a professional to look at or is there anything i could do that may help it?

Thanks

    Hey there,

With Windows 8.1 on an Acer computer, you should be able to reset your PC, or do a system restore. Please follow the steps within this support article.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

The link will take you to the Microsoft Community Support website, in which you should be able to access without signing in.

If you have any peoblems with the link, please let me know.

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,
