Free Media Pak for Windows 8

Free media center from Microsoft for Windows 8 until 31 Jan. See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/feature-packs

Has anyone added this to a W510 ? Was there any downside ? Thank you,

That's only for Win 8 Pro version, W510 does not come with the pro version of Win 8.

you can only add the media pack if you bought and owned Windows 8 upgrade /win 8 Pro. The media pack is not compatiable with Windows 8 regular. There is only upsides as this can work with stream music and stream tv and record both with an external tuner or virtual one. Where I already purchased Win 8 for my Desktop I just downloaded the upgrade Pro via the purchase key provided than actitvated it. Than downloaded the Media Center Pack via the same method and volia Full Win 8 Pro on my Tablet that is not OEM. And with full Media Center capibilties ????. Funny part is your post gave me the idea. Once i read your post I instantly did the above. I guess i'm just odd i didnt realize this tablets dont come with Win 8 Pro as I was lead to believe ????

glad to report its running even faster with Pro there is no leg (not that there was before) but the touch interface seems to flow even faster and more responsive. Dont know why these devices arent Pro out the gate?

I have a Windows 8 Pro Pack (light blue box that just contains a key) upgrade package that says it includes Media Center (also Bitlocker and Remote Desktop). Installed that and now the control panel is expanded and the product key has changed. Reports itself as Windows 8 Pro with Media Center.

light blue box? you just type add features after you upgrade than it will download and restart voila media center added key changes from Pro key to Media Center install key code. What did you put on a hacked verison

    via iso ?

After you "add features" it asks if you have a product key or need to buy one. All that was in the light blue box was the needed product key. After installing, the last block shows up when you ask for the activation detais instead of the original one.

As mentioned before, the W510 comes with Windows 8 and not Windows 8 pro. The key in the "light blue box" raised it to Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. Apparently for the free key to work you needed to start with Windows 8 Pro.

Had all of the above so only used the free key on boxes that already had Windows 8 Pro (dark blue box that includes DVDs).

again so you hijacked a key or you actually bought Windows 8 Pro....not that it matters i purchased mine online via Microsoft

and Media Center was free. I know the copy with Media Center included wasnt offered in stores until a little while later and was over 200 bucks. Only those with a new purchase of a pc within a certian time frame were given an upgrade at a discount 39.99 and that incuded a recovery disc shipped to your address and with that Microsoft offered those with tha purchase Free Media Center add on for a limited time from Oct to Jan 31st .......Sounds to me you stole a key lol just my 2 cents
