about screen resolution, right click on desktop, choose screen resolution, click on the TV (probably number 2) and change resolution from the drop down menu.

    About turn off laptop screen:

    Fn+ F5

    or

    windows key logo + p

    choose second screen only

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Thanks very muck..  fn F5 is perfect.  The screen resolution is a bit of a pain. Initially  I didn't't have the one I wanted

1920x1080 ?  Then another screen appeared with more options.. now it's *nearly* right but is jsut a bit too big i.e the task bar is almost off screen.  next size down is too small though.  I see "scaling" but no way to apply. Is this available for fine tuning the size ?

Are you sure the TV is 1080p and not 1080i ? It sounds like a 720 screen trying to do 1080.

What is the make and model of TV ?

For my camper I went with a 1920/1080 monitor and an external ATSC tuner. Works much better. Think the time of a TV with a tuner is about gone. Most do not need and can shave $50-$100 off the price.

That is typical when connecting to a TV. The typical TV display mode puts some of the image onto overscan area to allow the video to display all the way to the edge. Most TVs have a menu selection that allows you to turn overscan off and display the full screen with a small border on the outside. If your TV does not there are utilities that let you display a smaller area than full 1080p on the TV.

Not sure if it's 1080p or 10801.  Not mentioned in the specs in the manual.

Make/model is panasonic TH-P55ST0Z (maybe OZ). I don't know what an ATSC tuner is (it has a didgital rx) but I am connecting to it via the HDMI port.

Thanks billsey, can you suggest such a utility ?  I can't see overscan in the manual but will keep looking.

IIRC your laptop has an Intel HD display. There should be overscan adjustments built in. Go the the graphics properties and look for advanced features or something similar. There should be a scaling adjustment there.

Watched our first streamed movie last night and results were great. But Windows is awkward when you can't see the task bar or all the desktop.  I had a look under advanced grahics and there is a Panel Fit option but all you can do is turn 'Maintain Display Scaling" On or Off.  if you turn it Off it just turns itself back on again.  Puzzling.

If you have any other siggestions I'd appreciate it.

Looks like Intel is aware they are having issues with display scaling and are working on it. You might drop by their forum and ask specifically about HDMI overscan, in case they have that already working on your chipset.
