Have a 2012 Acer Aspire 725 - this has been a very bad experience.  Spent almost 400 on computer, and now another $48 on USB and can't get any support ---

    Download Hiren's boot cd
    http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

you must create a bootable media as CD or USB pen from the .iso inside the downloaded .zip file.

you can use Rufus to create a bootable USB from that .iso:

    http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US

    boot selecting Mini XP

    Once booted use command prompt:
then inside the cmd windows, type
    diskpart
    then on diskpart type
    list disk
take note of the correct disk ID to erase
    type
    select disk x
(x is the ID of your HDD to erase)
    type
    clean

your HDD will be erased completly

now insert your recovery USB media and boot your notebook pressing F12, choose the USB as bootable device and try again to install

Because, sometimes the USB recovery need a wiped HDD to work or it will give you some errors.

Do you know that wiping and using USB recovery, you will loose all your personal data?

have you already tried to press ALT+F10 at boot, without the USB recovery plugged?

that is a statement that you have to agree on to start the USB - trying the Alt F10 now -

thanks for trying to help ====

no that gives me the error message that I started with about the D2D\images missing path

    - when you hit OK, it just starts all over again - trying to restore - and then you get the message again

now, when I restart without the restore thumb - I get INTEL UNDI ON PXE 2.1 build 083

    paternt info

EXITING PXE ROM - No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key

the PXE error is correct since the BIOS can't find any bootable device available.

have you tried my suggestion to wipe your HDD?

once you did, you can boot from the USB and re-install your OS.

Thanks for sticking with me through this!

I must be misunderstanding - wipe the hard drive?  when I restart the computer with the thumb there - it asked a question - with a warning that I would loss all data.  I thought that this was wiping the hard drive.

I really need to get a working computer soon, what make/model would you suggest?

yes, the installation warns you about data loss, since it will re-install but sometimes the installation process from and USB recovery media need an already wiped HDD to be successful.
