Install windows on SSD

Hello,

I just got a new SSD. I want to replace my HDD with this and install Windows on it. I have no idea how to do that. In Acer eRecovery Management it automatically installs windows on the HDD. I don't want that of course. I don't have a windows installation cd anymore. How can I do this?

Thanks

i suggest you to create a recovery media from Acer erecovery (USB or DVD), then disconnect your HDD, connect your SSD.

put the DVD on the tray or plug your USB with the recovery media, boot your PC and press F12, select the bootable device (USB or DVD) and let the system install windows to factory default.

What do you mean precisely with 'recovery media'? What exactly do I have to copy to my USB? Keep in mind that windows itself is installed on the HDD, and that that's the recovery drive, so I need the HDD to install windows.

Just to be sure, first I have to create that recovery thing on my USB, then I have to shut down my PC, unplug HDD, boot again, open bios and select my SSD as first boot device? And then it should start installing Windows?

And I have to keep my USB plugged in all the time?

    1. Create recovery on USB, follow link instructions
    2. power off your PC and plug the USB with the created recovery media
    3. disconnect HDD and connect SSD
    4. power on your PC, press F12 and select USB as bootable device
    5. follow on screen instructions

And I will still be able to store games on my SSD, even if this is my boot device, right?

As you did in the HDD if the SSD has enough storage. Smiley Happy

I just tried it, and it doesn't seem to work. I can make a backup disk, but I cannot do this via a external hard drive, I can only choose to burn it on DVDs...

So how can I put it on the external hard drive?

you must burn a DVD, some versions of Acer erecovery can do it only on a DVD.

so instead of the USB, use a DVD.

Here I am again, I got it to work, it said that it would install Windwos on my SSD, but now I get this error:

Error=1005 (the volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted).

What do I have to do now?

which OS are you trying to install?

probably the recovery disk wants a formated SSD, you connect the HDD back again with your SSD connected too, then boot from your HDD and choose to format the SSD once on windows.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 64 bit. I've already tried formatting my SSD, that didn't work either. There's nothing on my SSD.

do you mean that format didn't work or that you sucessfull formatted the SSD but installer gave you the same error?

The formatting worked, but I still get the same error.
