intel AMT ME State Control Disabled - Can't Access OS

Hello,

Acer Veriton M670G Desktop, BIOS P01-A3, Windows 7 Pro

I disabled ME State Control in the Intel MEBx. I now cannot access the OS - get a black screen w/blinking cursor.

I can enter BIOS setup. I cannot enter the Intel MEBx - Ctrl-P does not work.

I can boot to a USB DOS disk. I cannot start USB or DVD Windows OS or setup.

Have tried:

- Clear CMOS by removing the battery

- Disable Intel AMT in BIOS

- Re-flash the P01-A3 BIOS

Nothing works. Can't seem to find helpful info on the web or in the Intel vPro MEBx documentation.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure if this issue is related to the intel AMT, but have you tried to force shutdown the OS (black screen + blinking cursor) long pressing the power button 3-4 times until windows tells you that the OS need a repair?

or have you tried pressing F8 at boot, to start to safe mode?

once booted on safe mode, go to Device manager/display adapter/click driver tab/uninstall
    once uninstall finish, reboot normally
download latest video drivers from Acer website and install it

Force shutdown- as soon as I touch the power button, the system shuts down.

    F8 doesn't work - can't even begin the OS.

The blinking cursor starts immediatly after the BIOS boot screen.

    Thanks, though.

so it's looking for a bootable device.

    try this:

disconnect DVD and HDD, then try to enter Intel MBEx

Disconnected HDDs and DVD. Reboot, pressing Ctrl-P along the way. Can't seem to get past "Reboot and select proper boot device"?

Put back the HDD and retry, last resort.

Drives re-plugged. Back to flashing cursor.

I can see the drives/files using NTFS4DOS, but it seems somehow Intel AMT is blocking the OS startup.

have you checked on BIOS if any option is available to activate the AMT (so CTRL+P will work)?

try to set an admin password, sometimes this enable some hidden settings on BIOS.

I have tried Disable and Enable Intel AMT in BIOS with no change in behanior.

Tried setting a supervisor passwoard which did open up some security items, but on re-boot no change.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Finally solved after 4-1/5 days. After trying various CMOS resets, jumper settings, contacting Intel engineers, etc - none of which worked - I went into the BIOS and randomly disabled Intel TPM and Voila! the system boots to OS. I have no idea why or how Intel vPro AMT or TPM work, and I've looked at lost of documentation. I'm not even sure Acer or Intel undertand how they work. My advice? - Don't touch 'em.
