RAM upgrade Acer Travelmate P256 ZYW

Hi All,

My travelmate has 8GB of memory. I bought another 8 Gb. According to the specs it can handle 16 GB max.

It has two slots. Each module (the original and the new one) works in both slots.

I tried all 4 possible combinations to check the modules and the slots.

But when I put in both the modules, the BIOS (and Windows) reports there is 8 GB, NOT the expected 16 GB.

Have I missed something?

Thanks in advance !

John

    Hello John,

Could you give me the first ten characters of the serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.

You'll find this information on the label sticked on the lower cover.

Your new memory stick is perhaps not compatible with the original stick (latency CL11-11-11).

    The original part is:

    KN.8GB0B.019 - MEM 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz (SAMSUNG).

But they both work, and both are 1600 Mhz.
Allthough the new stick is another brand: PNY PC3 12800

How could it be they don't combine?

What is the PNY part number?

the partnumber on the package is: SOD108GBN/12800/3-BX
On the chipmodule it says: 64D0JKHNJ8-EU
and in smaller font: PO-14011000088 HOT 0314

    Hello John,

    Sorry for the delay.

    I found your PNY memory but I'm not sure it's a DDR3L (1.25V). I only saw 1.5V+/-0.2V.

    May be the component composition:

    Samsung: 8x512Mb - 2 ranks

    PNY: I don't know.

I can't see the voltage, but the module works ok when I put it in one of the sockets, so that should be okay i guess?

The circuitboard looks exactly like the samsung board. Count of chips is the same, layout is the same (at first view), except the samsung board is green and the PNY is blue... but I think that's irrelevant?

Check the memory you get duel channel memory and single channel memory , make sure you got two single channel memory modules in that laptop then you should be fine.

    Hi DKStallion,

Thanks for jumping in.... please forgive my ignorance, but how could I check it? The published datasheets do not mention (or I do not see it) wether the modules are dual channel or single channel.

    thanks,

    John

Now I got this email asking me if my problem is solved... well, no.
It looks like the only option is to buy and try different brands of memory. Not a good option I think.

Anyone here who tried to upgrade a Travelmate P276 from 8GB to 16GB ? And was it successful?
