Iconia One 7 (B1-730HD) doesn't recognize microSD card

I have a new Iconia One 7 (B1-730HD) running Android 4.4.2 (KitKat). The tablet has not been rooted. The tablet doesn't recognize my new SanDisk 32GB Extreme formatted as FAT32. When I go to settings/device/storage, there are only settings for internal storage. There is nothing to mount or dismount an external sd card. When I start the camera app and try to modify the settings to store photos on the external card, it asks for a microSD card to be inserted. It had been inserted before starting the tablet.

The microSD card is good. I am able to connect the card to a Windows Vista PC using a USB 2.0 card reader. I am able to create directories and copy files to the microSD card from the PC. I tried formatting the card from the PC using SDFormatter 4.0,  but that hasn't made a difference.

I think the problem is with the microSD slot on the tablet. The card is very small and it doesn't seem possible to insert the card to the slot exactly straight. It always seems to be slightly crooked. I'm very suspicious of the interface.

I'm aware of the issues involved with using a external card on KitKat. I haven't seen anybody say that KitKat can't recognize the card at all.

Is there are workaround or a way to determine with certainly that the microSD slot on the tablet is faulty? Can I connect the SDCard with a reader to the tablets microUSB slot? Is there a setting that must be changed in KitKat?

Can you try with a smaller one?

    like 8 or 16gb?

are your 32gb SD card a microSD High Capacity (microSDHC) or SDXC?

I think you are likely right, you should be able to insert the card straight. I haven't worked with the 730 yet, is the MicroSD slot spring loaded? If so does the 'push it in' to eject work?

My card is microSDHC, which is supported by B1-730HD. I don't have a smaller card. I could get one, if it might fix this problem.

Yes, the microSD slot is spring loaded. This surprised and pleased me at first. I read a review of the B1-730HD on the web that said that much fingerwork was needed to remove the card from the slot. That isn't true. It is easy to insert and remove the card. It just isn't perfectly straight. I just noticed this today. I think that I'll spend more time trying to get the card in the slot straight.

I have an update. Once I removed the tablet from the protective case that I bought, I was able to insert the microSDHC card straight into the tablet. I wasn't at all crooked. Yet the tablet still did not recognize the card.

I'm new to android. Is there an error log where android might have written a message that it was unable to mount the card and the reason why not? Is there a way to clean the microSD slot on the tablet?

Other than that, I'll take the suggestion to buy a smaller card.

you can download some applications from google play, like alogcat, that takes log on android systems (it not 100% compatible with all the devices but worth a try).

by the way, if the microSD can't be recognised from the system, i suspect more an hardware incompatibility or issue, and this can't be logged.

I bought a Samsung microSDHC card with 16GB and class 6. The new card is smaller and slower than the previous card, but with the same result. I'm able to create directories and copy files to the card from my PC. The tablet doesn't recognize the card. I installed a few log viewing apps, but there wasn't anything relevent in the display.

In another thread, a suggestion was made that there may be a sheen on the contacts. Inserting and removing the card 20 times or so can wear off the sheen. Since this doesn't seem like it can cause any harm, i'll try it.

The table is up-to-date with KitKat. I don't think the problem is a software bug. I may have to contact Acer to find out if they think that the tablet is broken.

I'm leaning that way myself. It seems like you have tried everything reasonable and the cards are still not recognized. I'd go ahead and contact Acer support with the issue.

With Kit-Kat it is not that it doesn't recognize the cards at all,  it's that they turned off the ability for Android to use the card for moving apps too. You can still use it to store pics, music....etc. I don't like that Google did this but what can you do. If you can't even store data on the card the nyour slot is definitely bad. Good luck, hopefully someone can take a lok at it and fix it for you.
