Acer Iconia A1-830 and Blackberry z30 Hotspot Connection After OS Upgrade To KitKat 4.4.2

Despite receiving an update for OS KitKat 4.4.2 my Blackberry z30 is still unable to connect to my Acer Iconia A1-830 via HOTSPOT or BLUETOOTH TETHERING. Obviously this is a software issue because the original OS Jellybean 4.2.4 was working fine before the upgrade to KitKat 4.4.2. Acer need to provide a fix so that my Acer Iconia A1-830 and my Blackberry z30 can connect via HOTSPOT or BLUETOOTH TETHERING.

  • Hi Mark,

Could you provide more info. Is that you are using Mobile data from your Z30 for wifi access on your Acer Tablet?

Thanks for the reply. I am actually using my BlackBerry z30 as a Hotspot so I could do wireless connection to my Acer Iconia A1-830 Tablet.

  • So, what happens when you try to connect to Wifi HS, What is the message you get, could you share a screen shot if possible?

I can't provide a screen shot because there is no error message and also   there is no connection. My Acer Iconia A-830 just keep trying to connect to the BlackBerry z30 Hotspot without any success.

  • Does it even ask for the security key. if the HS has security enabled? have you tried without a Security key?. have you tried with different wifi networks or hotspots?

Hi, I have tried everything you have suggested but the problem remained. As I said before when I had the original OS Jellybean 4.2.4 everything works fine.

Anything happening with this? I have 3 Acer B1-750s, Android 4.4.4 Kernel 3.10.20+

    Acer Image version: Acer_AV0K0_B1-750_RV03RC02_WW_GEN1

    Build #: Acer_AV0K0_B1-750_1.012.00_WW_GEN1

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Turn on the blackberry hotspot

    2. Enable WiFi on the tablet

    3. Select the Blackberry hotspot from the list of available networks

    4. Enter the WPA pass phrase

    5. Watch as the Acer repeatedlt tries (and fails) to connect.

An open unsecured hotspot is not an option, and in any event the blackberry has no option to disable security.

The Acer does connect to Android and iPhone Hotspots with no trouble, but I use a Blackberry in my business operations so those devices don't count.

Really need this to work or the Acer tablets I purchased have to be returned for something that works with Blackberry Hotspot, by way of investigating this problem I now know Nexus works properly, as does Samsung)

Hi, sorry to hear that you are having a similar problem with your HOTSPOT CONNECTION. I had requested help from Acer by sending my unit three times for downgrade and the problem is still there after an upgrade to KiKat 4.4.2. As you know everything works fine with the previous OS JellyBean 4. I have being waiting for an upgrade to address this problem for alomost a year and Acer has done nothing. Acer is in denial and I just hope customers would realized that their product support is not up to standard. Honestly I think it is a strategy by Acer to stop people from buying Blackberry products. Since my attempt to get help from Acer with this issue ( Hotspot Connection Failure), Blackberry had released two OS upgrade and Acer hasn't done nothing to their stupid KitKat 4.4.2 OS. Anyways good luck with your quest to find a solution and I am patiently waiting for a fix from Acer.

Hi, thanks for your email, you must have patience of a Saint to be screwed around by Acer for over a YEAR, WOW,

Doesn't Acer know its not good business to piss off paying clients and screwing them around and especially since this situation can be corrected in a matter of minutes to the right person.

Well I can't wait, I hoped to have this situation corrected by now, ( 2 Weeks ) but seems this is not going to happen anytime soon or even if Acer wants to fix this problem, So I'm returning Acer produces and buying Black Berry friendly tablets, I will let the Chamber of Commerce members and networking clubs also know, that if you have a BB NOT TO BUY an Acer Tablet.

Good Luck to you and everyone else who is going through this.

As for me, I'm DONE WITH ACER.......

You probably should do a search and replace, changing 'Acer' to 'Google', since it's Google holds the keys to Android features. Smiley Happy

    Hi

Thank you for your help in this matter, but I took them back for a refund, I bought the tablets

for my employees and myself to make things easier when we are away from the office,

As it turned out, it just wasn't doing what we needed the tablets to do.

So again thank you for your concern and help

    Cheers

Sometimes it takes drastic actions like this for manufacturers shows gratitude to their customers. This could have being avoided by Acer doing the right thing. As fo me I took too long so I am stuck with this product. Hope other Customer read our stories and avoid Acer products as long a they fail to provide the necessary Customer Support. This is Acer responsibility to make sure their customers are satisfied, not Google. Anyway thanks and God bless.
