Computer sometimes booting into insydeH20

Hi all, I have an Aspire V5 -473P-5602. This is my 2nd unit as the first had issues that couldn't be fixed. Had this replacement for 2 months now and has been working great until recently. I'm hoping this is a minor thing, but I can't seem to find anything online about it.

Basically, sometimes when I turn on the computer it boots into the "insydeh20" screen. Not every time but enough to be annoying to me. The computer is pretty much as is when I got it new. No 3rd party apps, nothing modified etc etc.

Anyone know why this happens? Again, except for installing Windows updates nothing on the computer has been changed.

Oh, and sometimes when I start the computer I hear a clicking sound ( one click) Seems it makes the noise when there is a Microsft update available. Normal?? Never did it before...

I think the insydeH20 has something to do with the BIOS. Is the computer booting to the UEFI, or is it just freezing on the insydeH20 screen? If it is freezing there, you may try to restore your system to factory settings. If it is just showing the insydeH20 screen before finally booting into Windows, I wouldn't really worry about it.

About the clicking noise, it is hard to say without hearing it. Sometimes failing hard drives make clicks, but usually more than 1. I would recover the system, and if it boots and works, don't worry too much about it.

The insydeH20 screen has been popping up randomly, but not the last few days. It doesn't freeze and I can navigate through the screens but I do not change anything and I just generally press ESC and it goes to my normal desktop. I guess I can try to reinstall from my recovery stick.

The single click (or popping) sound is only at startup so not sure if its from a failing hard drive. If I turn the sound off I don't hear it. I tried testing all the system sounds but it wasn't one of them. I first thought it was happening when there was a new system/windows update, but not sure if that is it. Like I mentioned, its not like a normal Chime/ping or windows sound...more like a snapping sound or pop, but only once at startup . Strange.

Good thing is that this is a new replacement unit from Acer, with still 7 / 8 months warranty left.

    Thx for the reply Clyde.

( ps any way to post a audio file to one of these posts? MAybe I can record the sound at start up.

    what's your laptop model?

the one in the first post is wrong.

by the way, i would try to reflash the BIOS, then boot to BIOS pressing F2, load optimal settings, save and exit.

this will refresh the saved configuration, since i suspect a setting corruption that can arise here and there.

How do you re-flash the BIOS?

ok found it, was a momentary problem on acer support website, go here:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers/4836;-;Aspire%20V5-473P

click on BIOS tab and select the latest 2.29, unzip and run the .exe file, follow the instructions.

    it's very easy. Smiley Happy

then, without loading optimal settings, try to see if you still have the issue.
