to use the USB recovery, your HDD must be completly wiped.

i suggest you to create a bootable USB or CD media from Hiren's boot cd .iso
    http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/
unzip the zip file, burn the .iso file to CD or USB pen/external HDD
then boot from the burned media and choose mini-xp from the options, once in the desktop, double click "command prompt"

    then type
    diskpart
    then on diskpart type
    list disk
take note of the correct disk ID to erase
    type
    select disk x
(x is the ID of your HDD to erase)
    type
    clean
    type exit

    shutdown Mini Xp

now boot from your recovery media

Thank you for responding! ATM the recovery is still going, it has gone farther since my post. I guess it must just take a very long time to do the recovery. I purchased an acer usb recovery that was made for my computer and thats what ive been trying to install. it has been going for almost 12 hours. Every once in a while new messages go up saying "extracting files" I thought maybe it was frozen before. I guess I'll just leave it over night and see what happens. If that doesnt work then I'll try your suggestion, Thanks again!!

Ok so now it has been over 24 hrs since starting the Acer recovery and it has been stuck at  extracting  f2f.no.1a0.036_1-3.iso for about 20 hrs, is this normal?  There was also a message before it that said x:\windows\system32> md m:\ini the request could not be performed because of an I/o device error. Does anyone understand any of this or have any idea what to do? I can't afford to have it repaired and don't know much about computers and fixing them. Any help is greatly appreciated!  Should I just let it go or restart the recovery?

an I/O error means that something is wrong on hardware communication, in your case on USB......

i think you are facing an hardware issue on USB port, you can only take it to a repair shop.

    sorry
