Live Updater not showing any updates, even though it should be?? Aspire V5-571

Hi all,

Got a bit of an issue with the Acer tool called Live Updater that I hope somebody can help with.

I am pretty sure that when I go to the Windows 8.1 drivers section for my Aspire V5-571 laptop, that some of the drivers are newer versions on the website than the ones I have installed on my PC. I have checked the version numbers against those in Device Manager in Windows.

However, whenever I run the Live Updater tool, it always, always says that there are ZERO updates available. This is frustrating as I am sure it should offer me some driver updates. I know some will say "Just download the updates and install them them" but I would rather have the system detect which updates need installing and then actually install them. After all, that is the purpose of this tool! I know it should work as I've seen a video for it on the Acer website.

I Google'd the issue and found this page:

Acer Updater does not find updates

The site above mentions downloading a newer version of the Live Updater tool, called Acer Updater, if the Live Updater is not showing any updates. I tried this but I have the very same problem - zero driver updates!

There must be newer drivers available for this machine considering some of them on the Acer website are dated 2014 and I haven't installed any this year. I contacted Acer Support but they didn't offer me any help or assistance at all.

Any ideas anybody?

Thanks

Can somebody from Acer please respond to this?? I have waited long enough. I was advised by e-mail (by yourselves!!) to send this query to premiumtechsupport@acer.co.uk - an e-mail address which does not exist!! Very helpful, not.

This is a peer to peer support forum. Acer does not monitor it nor provide technical advice through this venue.

Well if that is the case then where DO they provide technical support, as the e-mail address I was given by the "Software development team" is a dud!

Can you check the Live updater version?

    Thanks for the reply.

It looks like it is version 2.0.

When searching for a solution to this, I also found there is another updater app from Acer, called Acer Updater (1.02) - but again, this also shows no updates at all. I find it hard to believe there are no updates as I can see them on the website. Do these applications ever work for anybody else on a regular basis?? When I first got the laptop 18 months ago, it found loads of updates, but nothing ever since.

Thank you very much for this, it seemed to work Smiley Happy

However! I'm still a bit confused. The Acer Update utility finds only these two updates, a 2.11 BIOS and a VGA driver 9.17.10.2867.

The confusion comes firstly because the currently installed Intel VGA driver on my system is 9.17.10.3347, which is surely newer than that offered, and secondly, when I go on the Acer Drivers and Manuals section of their website, and search for my laptop by Serial Number/SNID (so therefore surely taking me to my correct model), it shows updates that I do not have such as 2014 drivers for Bluetooth, Wireless LAN and Card Reader - I've not installed any drivers this year so I don't know why these are not showing in the Live Update tool. And also, under the BIOS tab of the website, it shows BIOS versions 2.17 and 2.18 - no mention of a BIOS 2.11 update, which is what the Live Updater tool is telling me about.

This is mainly why I wanted the Live Updater tool to update my drivers because of the potential of choosing the wrong drivers on the website version. But now I'm not sure which is correct. I'd probably still rather choose the updates through the Live Updater tool, as I am sure they would work, but it seems lke it is offering me old versions?

Also note that the VGA driver version offered on the website is 10.18.10.3304, whereas Acer Live Update tool offers 9.17.10.2867.

    Thanks for any advice.

    can be 3 things:

    1) live updates doesn't use the same repository as the website

    2) maybe it offers only incremental updates, so if you have 2.10 it will highlight 2.11 first, instead of 2.13, but after updating to 2.11 will gives you 2.13 as an option (just my thoughts)

    3) it's reading wrong infos from past drivers installations

Do you by any chance also have the Acer Live Updater link for the Windows 7, 64 bit version ?
The link found here in the Knwoledge Base, point to nowhere (gives 404):

    Thanks, in advance

I was so excited to see this download, because my LiveUpdater also does not show the updates that the webiste shows (in fact my updater shows nothing).  Unfortuanetly, this version of updater you have linked to does not work for my Acer laptop.  I have a Travelmate (TMP-645-MG) running WIndows 7 Pro 64-bit.  Is there any finctional updater I can download for that?
