How can i move apps to my SD card to free up space on the iconia a1-830?

Is there an app that will move my apps to an SD card without rooting my tablet?

If not, is there an easy, safe, reliable way to root it?

And does anyone else find Acer's online web system hard to register/ sign in/ and navigate?

I don't know the answer to your question, sorry. But I am interested in getting an acer. Are you saying you're having a problem with your computer trying to connect to the web?

He's talking specifically about the Acer website, not about web browsing in general.

a few months ago i bought the Acer Iconia A1-830. i can't speak for the other models of Acer tablets, but i would recommend NOT getting this one. It's very limited in what it can do, i can't seem to find any info on how to work around the problems, and for some reason it is not compatible with some of the better Android programs like Microsoft Office for moble. It looks like i wasted money buying an SD card for it last week because apparently it is impossible to move apps to it to free up space on main drive.

Based on the level of satisfaction versus the level of frustration, disappointment, and lack of Acer support, i would recommend going with a different manufacturer.

Dang. That's awful. Are there any other areas the acer is limited besides it not being able compatible with Microsoft Office for mobile?
Also, can you move apps onto an external hard drive? Or are you saying the acer won't let you move apps at all?
and I have heard bad things about acer customer support. And I asked them simple questions about the acer aspire switch 11 I am interested in purchasing, and they couldn't (or wouldn't) answer my question. It was ridiculous.

i don't know about an external hard drive, but i would expect it to be just as inaccessible as my SD card is. The Iconia's lack of adjustability makes it seem to be pretty much just an electronic Etch-a-sketch.

This is most likely a limitation of Android kit kat, and not a limitation of the Acer tablet. Other people discuss the same topic on other boards.

Thanks for the link. There was a lot of good information there, but it didn't work for me anymore than it did for the others. Is "Android version 4.4.2" on my Acer Iconia different than the "Android version 4.4.2" on my Samsung Galaxy? Because i CAN move apps to the SD card on my Samsung.

because Samsung bypassed the Google restrictions, Acer no.

different choices but depends also on business contracts.

That's good to know. Any chance that will change?

    good question....

google changed SD policy on lollipop 5.0, it depends if Acer would change it too in the future.

Can current Android machines be upgraded to Lollipop? (i'm an old guy, all the way back to DOS 6 and Windows 3.1)

Some should be upgradable, some will either not meet required specs or will be too old for the porting work to be done.

So I buy a beautiful Acer Iconia A1-840, with a mini SD slot giving an additional 32gb of storage. Wow, I said, and at a bargain basement price. Got her home pretty little thing, although bluetooth doesn't work (it pairs up with my phone but won't download any pictures or songs). I have also found out that the 32gb SD card I bought is useless because I can't transfer anything to it. I guess the old saying you get what you pay for is true.

One thing i did do is use my PC to move my podcasts, music, etc. to the SD card and erase them off of the HD. That freed up room on the tablet but it is inconvenient to have to search out the data when i want it.

The problem is not Acer it is Android KitKAt 4.4.2 os.  Lollipop 5.0 is supposed to correct the problem inherent in Kitkat but cannot verify that as I have not downloaded android 5.0 (lollipop) yet. I plan to shortly. Once i have done that and tested it I will post a "how to"

I have kitkat 4.4.4, and am hoping I get the upgrade to lollipop. I do like this tablet even with the sd card problem, bluetooth, and oh ya no flash player.

You can use a third party app like apps2sd but system apps cannot be transfered. Smiley Happy

Thanks but the one that works on my Samsung doesn't work on the Iconia.
