I have an older Aspire, which is (APPARENTLY!) an M1610.  The motherboard is an Acer F672CR.  I would like to find put what the CP{U upgrade possibilities might be.  I currently have a Core2DUO Conroe @ 1.6 Ghz. CPU.  I have already upgraded the memory to 2 GB, which is the maximum supported.  I have also installed a PNY Verto GT240 video card and a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card.  I should also mention that I have gotten several different reports as to the exact model of my system--it has been identified as an M1600, an M1601, and, most recently, as an M1610  HE-E-E-E-E-L-L-L-P!!

  • Hello,

You'll find the serial number (S/N) in the bios setup utility.

Could you indicate me the first ten characters of the serial number?

The serial number on the side of the case is:  PTSA00X064*****  The Main Board serial number is:  04QT75031863.

Please let em know if you need any further information--and thanks for responding!

    Sincerely,

    Tom

I have upgraded both the cpu and the memory.  HOWEVER--the system continues to show only 2 GB of RAM!  Despite this, however, the Windows Experience index has gone up from 3.1 to 5.5, and the sound "stuttering" I had been experiencing has been greatly reduced, although it still occurs occasionally.  Is there a BIOS update available that would allow the system to make full use of the 4 GB of RAM?  I know it seems to be using it now, but I would still like to smooth out what little "stuttering" remains.  BTW, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit edition, if that has any bearing on the situation.  Thanks again in advance for any help or advice! • Hello,

    Memory issue:

1- What size of memory do you see in the bios setup utility?

2- What memory do you have installed (brand, p/n)?

3- Try by permuting the sticks. Check if they are inserted correctly.

    4- Example of memory.

    Sound issue:

1- Have you installed the last Realtek driver (Realtek website)?

2- Your audio cord is it equipped with "ferrites" (for electronic noises)?

"the Windows Experience index has gone up from 3.1 to 5.5": It's very good!

According to the utility program "SpeedFan," the memory modules I ordered are actually 1 GB each, instead of the 2 GB modules I ordered and paid for.  I will contact the vendor and see aboput getting replacements.  I have downloaded and installed the latest Realtek audio codecs.  Unfortunately, Acer did not post any sort of listing as to supported brands, part numbers, etc., of recommended memory, or I might have been able to prevent this.

I have initiated a return request on eBay.  Hopefully, the SDIMMS can be exchanged without any further difficulty.  One question, though:  Why did the Windows Experience Index go up so much if the SDIMMS were only 1 GB each?  That doesn't make sense to me at all!

  • Hello,

You haven't had any luck with the memory! Smiley Frustrated

The memory isn't the only parameter of WEI. Be careful, it's "memory operations per second" and not the size.

I think your score will be little better with the new sticks.

Have you solved your sound issue?

The sound quality is at least somewhat better.  I think that part of the problem may have arisen from software conflicts.  I tried installing both the latest AC97 and the high definition sound codecs you recommended.  The resulting conflicts made the sound stuttering much worse.  When I uninstalled both codecs, leaving only the sound card's own drivers, the sound quality improved dramatically.  I now believe that there may be some timing or clock speed issues involved as well as the amount of memory involved.  Perhaps the new memory was rated faster than what had originally been installed when the system was built at the factory.  When I order the replacement for the new memory, I will make every effort to match the factory specs you supplied as closely as possible.

One other question:  The motherboard specs recommends 667 MHz RAM, since that is also the FSB speed.  However, the Kingston Memory website, for which you furnished a link, specifically recommends DIMMS rated at 800 MHz.  Would that make a difference?  More specifically, would that mean an improvement in performance, in a manner perhaps similar to overclocking, even when the CPU is NOT being overclocked?

  • Do you have an audio cord with ferrites at both ends?

About memory, no difference. In your case, the real frequency will be 667 and not 800MHz but it's compatible. You also look at the Crucial webiste (Crucial advisor).

I don't have that kind of audio cord right now, and the Klipsch Pro Media speakers don't have such an input cord either.  However, I'll see if I can find one online that I can plug into the chain, so to speak.  I'll check the Crucial Memory website as well.
