B296CL resolution problem

Just purchased this monitor yesterday, which I have connected to my desktop via HDMI. When I do a custom resolution of 2560 x 1080 to match the monitor's specs, I get significant flickering and constant blackouts. The screen (when I can see it) is rendered correctly.

All drivers are up to date. Video card is Nvidia GeForce 9200.

I chatted with Acer tech support, who said the monitor does not support 2560 x 1080. Huh? It's advertised as such.

Currently to use the monitor I have it set at 1920 x 1080. It looks great with the exception of the giant black bars on the ends of the screen.

Am I missing something here? Please help as I need to consider a return. Thanks!

2560*1080 is the native resolution, must work at that resolution without using custom resolution.

    contact Acer support again.

    Thanks @IronFly.

Are you suggesting that once I plug in a 2560x1080 monitor my resolution settings should pick it up?

Could HDMI be limiting me to 1920?

absolutly 2560x1080 must be detected automatically as native resolution but i suspect that your nvidia 9200 is the weak link.

as external monitor you are reaching the maximum resolution if used with the laptop monitor, try to use it with only the external monitor.

I think you are correct about the video card. I have a question in on the Nvidia support site regarding correct driver or if it's just not possible with that card.
