Newbie! With not so new tablet...

Hey guys, I recently bought a 2ndhand Iconica W510 from someone who said it's barely a year old and only used a small number of times - and as he had no power cord, he couldn't get his files off it. I ended up buying one, but as all I got from him was a tablet and a case - should there be any other equipment that was meant to come with it, like disks etc?

Once I email his pics and documents back, what should I do next? He wants me to restore it back, but apart from not knowing how to exactly (am a geek, but never handled Win8 before so feels strange to say the least), am I actually able to 'restore' the tablet without wiping the software that was bundled with it - Microsoft Word etc etc? I had the idea of just creating my own user profile and deleting his, although I suspect this is not the best idea.

I also seem to struggle finding a simple PDF manual belonging to this particular model, so am in the dark quite a bit. Not to mention the propriety power cable being quite an irritation, as it sure wasn't cheap and I quite like being able to charge most of my stuff using common chargers - microUSB for example Smiley Sad

Welcome to the forum, Newbie.  I have the W4 and if Acer put on the same programs, then when you view the full Start menu (by swiping up from the bottom) and look over to the second set of alphabetically listed apps and programs, there is an Acer listing with one of programs being "Acer Recovery Management."  Its first option, "Restore Factory Settings" will put it back like the day it first came out of the box.

This will/should put MS Office back on, but in a 'ready to activate' state.  In the original box was an Office license number used to activate it (free for the first year).  Speaking of the box, the W4 only had the tablet, AC charger with USB -. MicorUSB cord and a couple of quick start manuals.

Oh, in that same Acer listing in Start should be "Acer User's Manual".  On my W4 it is 2 pages long, but on the second page is a link to the full 59-page manual do open and/or download in PDF format.

IF you are afraid of losing the MS Office license, then you could try Microsoft's Recovery option "Refresh your PC without affecting your files"

As for creating a user account for you and removing the other person's, make sure yours has full administrator rights after you boot into it.  If the other account appears to Windows as "The Great Administrator" account, Windows would not let you delete it, anyway.

    Hope some of this helps.

I found a forum on her for the W510 and recovery:

    http://community.acer.com/t5/Windows-Tablets/ICONIA-W510-how-to-reinstall-windows-8-with-recovery-DVD/td-p/74319

It mentions Recovery/Windows DVD/s but also a way around them (dl the image from Windows, dl the Acer drivers for the W510 before starting)

    And a power adapter here:

BTW I do not believe the W510 came from the factory with Office, mine didn't. If it has programs I would use a program (doubt that Acer would like naming one) to extract the license keys before recovery.

Second, if it had a 32GB SSD then it should have come with three recovery disks These are available from Acer.

My early 510 is running fine, I keep it on my downstairs desk.
