Does any have a Z3-615 model DQ.SV9EK.016 ?

I am trying to get an absolute answer as to whether this particular variant does or does not have the NVidia GT 840M graphics card or not.

I was going to get it from SimplyAcer (http://www.simplyacer.com/DQ.SV9EK.016-Acer-Aspire-Z3-615_1693187.html) as they clearly state it has the 840M graphics - however if I look around for the model DQ.SV9EK.016 elsewhere everyone else says it is HD4400.

I phoned Acer and they said "according to the information they have it has 840M" - I don't like the uncertainty in their answer - I phoned acer spare parts and they said there was no mention of NVidia as a part within that model. So not even Acer seem to know their own models.

So - does anyone actually have this model - and even better did they get it from SimplyAcer - and does it have NVidia 840M?

Hi Swells, I have another 615 model, however, you can run a complete diagnostics using the program WinAudit (Google it to find many sites).  You download it then run and it will show you everything about your actual system (...almost too much).  Give it a minute or two to run then look at the diagnostics and scroll to graphics for the result.

I've also had the 615 open to add RAM.  It's very easy to peek inside.  Disconnect and lay it down and remove the 4 stand screws holding on to the stand so you don't strip the screws.  Then there are 3 screws along the bottom you take out and push the entire back down a fraction to snap out and remove.  Inside you'll find the mother board covered by a plate.  Remove 4 screws and carefully remove to see the mother board, cpu, RAM, and graphics if you have one.  There are 2 SO-DIMM slots for RAM.  I put in another 4 GB to match the 4 GB there.  You should be able to see the graphics chip if there is one installed, but it's easier to just run WinAudit  if you don't want to mess around looking inside.

    Hope this helps.  JBavl

That you for the detailed response. I now feel confident that I can increase the memory easily should I buy a model with only 4GB of RAM and that I can check it has the specification it is advertised as.

Your answer certainly assists me if I have already purchased the machine - but I am trying to prevent purchasing a machine that would "fail the test" - so I would still like an answer from someone who has the specific model I have in mind and even better got it from SimplyAcer?

If I find this model in a shop (like PCWorld) I could at least confirm the spec now - but SimplyAcer can't/won't run the check before they ship the product to me, so I could be stuck having to arrange a return (which I would rather not have to do).

    Thanks
