Acer Switch 10 Power issue

First off, I really like this little laptop/tablet, so I don't really want to return it.  I'm in the first week (bought at Amazon) so I have some time.

I've had a BSOD once, which I attribute to flakey windows behavior.  The thing that is really bothering me is that twice now, it just won't turn on.  I 'think' I got it to fire up both times by holding down the Power + Vol Down buttons for 30 seconds.  I say think, because it didn't power on right away, rather, it took me hitting the power button again.

Is this something that is going to give me issues down the road?  Any insight appreciated.

You may receive the message "Please eject the device using the Safely Remove hardware function in the system tray before disconnecting” when you connect your switch 10 tablet to the keyboard dock.

It is not necessary to use the Windows eject feature to remove the switch 10 from the keyboard. This option is not available in your system tray and is not required to disconnect the tablet.

It is not an issue and you may just ignore this meessage.

    Hi..

You may check the BIOS version and then install the lated BIOS update from Acer support website. Drivers and Downloads

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a shot.

One other question... most times, when I dock or undock my tablet to the keyboard, I get the stupid windows warning about safely ejecting a device before disconnection.  There is no such option to do so on the taskbar and I have no USB drive inserted.  Is there a fix for this as well?  Thanks!

I did the available updates via the Acer app.  Funny, it would NOT install the latest power management driver (failed everytime).

Beginning to think I have a bad machine.  Sucks too, as I really like this little guy.

Thanks again.  I figured I could ignore it, it's just a little annoying and didn't know if there was a way to fix it.

I have the same problem. Was using it this morning for an hour, came back to it and it will not power on. Tried the power button long press, tried the volume down and power button also tried a few swear words but nothing, just a paperweight at the moment. Any ideas?

I would keep trying what you are doing, maybe with it plugged in and with it not.  I actually held the power button + vol down for about 30 seconds and it seemed to fire up, but I dunno if that did it or if it just decided to power up.  You will get NO help from Apu and the boys at Acer, they haven't a clue as to this.

After you get it started, I would update the bios, turn off that windows quickstart (whatever it's called), and turn off sleep modes.  I know it's nice to be able to leave it/close it and come back to an 'instant on', but since I did those things, I haven't experienced a power issue at all.  I just work around using it and then powering down when I leave (with sleep modes off, I see a bright screen to remind me to power down).

Like I said, I really like this laptop/tablet, and there is nothing comparable at this price, so I'll deal with the quirks.

Oh, I also changed the button behavior, so when I'm on power, it will shut down and when on battery the power button makes it sleep (I really don't use that, it's just in case I bump that button, I can get the screen back right away and not have it power down).

Wel i got it powered up at last. Held the button down for ages but got nothing. So I tried again with the power lead in, blue light but still nothing. Now here is the odd bit, I pulled the power lead out and back in again, still with the on button pushed in, more influstration than anything else and the **bleep** thing started.

If it happens again I will try that first, well that then send it back to the retailer for a replacement.

    Thanks for your input.

You're welcome, hope it works out for you.

I gotta say though, if it did it to you once, it will do it to you again (mine did, 3 times before I did the above).  I mentioned all that I did as I wanted to try everything to make it work.  I should have done one thing at a time, however it's no big deal for me in it's current form.  I'm guessing that the only thing it might need is a bios flash and that's easy to do.  I think my old bios ended in 06 and the new one ends in 10.

Again, there is no help coming from Acer, even regarding how to do the bios.  If you download the bios, save the exe to your desktop and run it from there.  It installs fine right from there.  I was thrown a bit by this because every other previous bios I've done on other machines required a reboot into a OS level file.  This was much more convenient and one would think the Acer people would have instructions on this (NOT!).  I got a 'heads up' on what to do on these boards.

    Good luck!
