I can turn it on but then what? I'd like to do more than just look at it. What can it be used for & how do I do anything with it?

Well, you should be able to browse the web, run apps, read email, etc. You can install apps from the Play Store and there are a lot of them. Smiley Happy

Your computer comes with a wireless interface for connecting to the internet. You need to connect to a WiFi signal from a router to get the internet to work. If you don't have one you will likely have to purchase internet access from an ISP (Internet Service Provider) in your area. You can enable your WiFi connections from Settings.

I have internet access that plugs into the ETHERNET port, works on my desltop, does nothing plugged into the android, yet. I do not have a router to use, so that's out. I may be near brain dead & have trouble understanding the info I get. But in the end I usually get what I need into the stone sitting above my neck.

    TY, waiting for more.

Ah, I had looked at a couple of sales sheets on the model and the Ethernet port wasn't mentioned. I see it now in the engadget review. I'm guessing the Ethernet port is either configured for a static address that doesn't match your networks subnet or it's got the DNS settings configured wrong. You should be able to reset the port back to DHCP and let it get the correct information from your provider.

Some providers will only allow a single device to connect (typically a router that then allows multiple devices to share that connection). If that's the case then you'd probably have to call them to tell them you have a different device connected, so they can allow the new system access. If that's the case than I REALLY recommend a cheap router, so you can have both connected and working at the same time, without having to call them each time to disconnect one to plug the other in.

I've switched the cable before to other desktops & it works fine. It should work connecting the cable to the ETHERNET port, I just have to find how to input the IPv4 address, subnet, gateway & server info I got from my IP. I've always done it as a LAN connection just as my IP told me.

In the settings there is ETHERNET listed under WIRELESS & NETWORKS. Shouldn't it work using the ETHERNET port & swithing it on, if I input the same info somewhere?

I've seen DHCP somewhere before, in a secondary or sub-menu from what is listed under WIRELESS&NETWORKS. If I could just find where again (what does DHCP stand for) & what if I still get unsuccesful when the ETHERNET trys obtaining the address?

I have not found where to configure the ETHERNET port. Or did & set it up incorrectly & now don't remember where or how. Can you explain how I might reconfigure the ETHERNET port?  I've seen "static address" before also.

I don't have any spare money & can barely feed my pets & myself as it is. So buying anything not ABSOLUTLY needed is going to have to wait  I have no manual, at least not one worth the time & trouble I've lost hunting for & downloading them. That's the reason I came here, with the hope of not wasting more time of what little I have to spare online. I'm waiting to have my IP cut me off for failure to pay already.

It's not easy foe me to admit that here but I'm out of other options.

OK, I haven't ever used one of these myself, so my instructions are going to be pretty vague... It sounds like your ISP gives you a static address that you have to manually add to each device you connect.

In Settings, probably under the subheading of Wireless & Networks, there should be an entry to configure the Ethernet port. Somewhere within that there is probably a check mark for enabling and disabling the Ethernet port, and a selection to configure the port parameters. When you configure the port likely the first thing is to use DHCP or a static address. If my understanding of what you ISP wants is correct you'll select Static IP. From there you should be shown fields for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and a couple of DNS Server addresses. If that doesn't sound like what your ISP is asking you to use let me know and we'll try other options. (Could be PPPoE, for instance)

There is NO checkbox to check. I can turn the Ethernet on or off.

Can you explain how to get to the Static IP spot?

Those are the correct items/info that is entered to set up the Ethernet connection.

I don't have access to your model, so I can't go through the steps for you. Acer support may be able to give you the info, if no one else here is going to jump in.

I cannot get anything from Acer support. They stalled me with excuses & finger pointing until the warranty expired & now want $170.00 for another year of service, getting none the first year I don't care to throw away the money for another year of the same. I can't afford it anyway.
