I have a puzzling issue. My Acer Aspire is about 2 weeks old. Its only issue is that at times, Internet Explorer 11 loves to crash. It will do one of 2 things when it does. It will either cause a restart or it will close the browser. Does anyone have any idea why or what is causing this?

  • Hi,
Could be of Add-Ons, or some specific websites,. but yes the best way to Fix, get to Control Panel>Program & features> Add or remove windows features(from the Left Pane)> Uncheck IE11, Restart the unit & need to do the same, to install, check & get back,.. Cheers

It could be just the browser. IE isn't the best browser to use. I would suggest you to try Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as they are better browsers than IE.

You may check by enabling "ActiveX Filtering".
By default it is disabled, but enabling it does fix the freezing issue on YouTube. You can leave it enabled for other sites, but keep in mind that it could cause a game or video to not load properly. You probably won’t run into that issue, but if you do, you can just disable it again.
To enable ActiveX Filtering, press the ALT key on your keyboard while IE 11 is open and then click on Tools and just click on ActiveX Filtering.

Then you may also Open IE, click Tools > Internet options > Security > Reset all Zones to Default level, and see if it helps.

Finally, you may use  System File Checker, iIf any changes are detected to a protected system file, the modified file is restored from a cached copy located in the Windows folder itself.

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search. Type Command Prompt in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    sfc /scannow

    Hi Sharanji,

It crashed the first day I took it out of the box. And a few times more there after. I have a Toshiba laptop with windows 8.1 and its never done it. So, I dont know.  I havent downloaded anything. No extra files. It doesnt happen all the time. Only when you least expect it. Other than that, the Acer works fine.  And to the comment about changing browsers, I could, but I will stay with Internet Explorer.

I am sorry to hear that  ther internet explorer crashed the first day you had taken the computer  out of the box since this is a new computer there would have been many updates released by Microsoft windows for your computer.

This could happen when some updates would have modified the files associsated with this application.

You may try the above mentioned steps once to chekc the issue.
You also have the option to refresh windows without loosing data.
