Hi fellow W700 owners,

I m using mine in Win8 all along and decided to upgrade to win8.1 last week. Windows Store offered a free 8.1 upg and I followed that path. All seems well when completed until I needed to bluetooth a photo fm my phone over. I realised theres no SEND or RECIEVE in the bluetooth icon. The only way to send or recieve is to run "fsquirt" command. I read in other forums that I must install acer new drivers to work. So I tried to install bluetooth 8.1 drivers but it wont run. Only way was to update drivers via device manager. It did update to 8.0.1.302 but bluetooth still cannot send ! I like your kind help for those successful w700 win8.1 sets:

1) What is the way to upg to 8.1 ? Did I miss some steps ?

2) How to get my bluetooth working ?

Thank you friends

The correct way to update is to run all windows updates, and it will prompt you for the update, or you can download it from the store. Sounds like you upgraded correctly.

In regards to BT, you may try removing all instances of BT in device manager, and restarting the system and letting Windows 8.1 load the BT driver it thinks is correct, or uninstall in device manager, then install the downloaded one from Acer again.

    Thanks for reply.

Yes, I already tried all that u mentioned but to no avail, including Acer w700 driver updates. I then tried troubleshooting in control panel and it says I got a missing driver and undetected hardware change. I allowed it to do a global search and it found an Asus BT suite with driver. Ran that and presto the BT got updated to the right value and I can send & recieve now. Its strange that Acer does not provide the Asus driver update.

I've tried numerious times to upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1/8.2

Something is always not working. When I get the WiFi to work, the bluetooth quits, when I finally hunt down and go though the proper upgrade sequence to get the bluetooth working properly, the WiFi quits or the video out, or some other component. Proper drivers are not available from Acer and you have to jump though hoops to find the right ones to solve each problem.

The deal breaker for me is the loss of support for Adhoc networks. MS pulled direct support for Adhoc networds out of Windows but for the most part you can still connect manually which is a terrible workaround. The real deal breaker is the new WiFi drivers no longer support 802.11a which you need to connect to most Adhoc networks that are tethered links to smartphones. So if you need to tether your W700 to Adhoc networks beware that it may not work at all if you upgrade and you'll need to fight the entire time trying to get drivers to work. I have the same issues with my Acer notebook.

Acers equipment seems to be top notch out of the box but lacks in support and future upgrade abilities. I've now locked my W700 into Win8.0 permanently with some registry hacks and there will be no future purchases of Acer equipment. Others seem to have been more successful with their upgrade attempts but unless you are willing to spend time solving each issue and living without some features, then by all means upgrade.

My upgrade went completely smoothly, I just made sure all updates were applied before starting (I think the video driver I had installed was the one from Intel, not the older one from Acer though). No missing drivers, no missing functionality. I don't have a need for ad hoc networks, but if I did there are workarounds (as you said). I certainly wouldn't be blaming Acer for Microsoft's decisions!

Hi, sympathise with all yr troubles. What I really did was this: Clean recover the w700 with the given recovery cds. The win8 tablet is now factory original. Then I allowed all win8 updates to take place. When thats done, I went to AppStore to get the free win8.1 upgrade. And as usual the win8.1 updates after that. All things went smoothly without a hitch or any guess work required. In the end it was the bluetooth that didn't work. I allowed Troubleshooting (Control panel) to detect the fault and to search a solution. It says bluetooth suite is missing and found an asus one for me. Installed that and problem resolved. I won't profess to have the perfect system but up to now theres been no issues or missing functions. Theres no "? or Others" in drivers page and all seems well. If u follow my steps, u should get to the same end, provided u use the given recovery cds (5 or 6 cds) - Thank you
