Please give me options,

I can not get the xc - 105 to recognise the network, I know the modem is fine as am using a x1700 at the moment.  My recovery point, downloaded software up dates etc have not done a thing.

I can start it and get to the login but nothing else, tried changing boot sequence as well. And rebooted the modem as well.

As the system is a budget by I have extremely limited back up for repairs.

I really would like to be able to fix to if only to save files not already backed up to an external.

This could have happened when windows 8 updates were automatically installed on your computer.

You may reset windows to fix this issue

If you wish to backup data, at the black screen, press and hold the power button until the system powers off. This typically takes 5-8 seconds.

From the login screen, click the power icon in the lower right corner of the screen.

While holding Shift key down on your keyboard, click Restart. Click on Troubleshoot. Click on Advanced Options. Click on Startup Settings. Click on Restart. The PC will now reboot to the Startup Settings screen. Press 4 to Enable Safe Mode as prompted. The PC will now boot to Safe Mode. Enter your user name and password as prompted to log into Safe Mode. Open the Start screen and backup the data.

To reset you computer, please follow the below mentioned steps:

Restart the computer and get to the windows login screen.

During the system recovery process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. Therefore, we recommend you backup your personal data before starting the recovery process.

From the login screen, click the power icon in the lower right corner of the screen.

While holding Shift key down on your keyboard, click Restart.

Click Troubleshoot and select Reset Your PC.

    Click Next.

The system will reboot and begin Preparing to Reset the PC.

At the Reset your PC screen, click Just remove my files. Click Reset.

You had mentioned that your computer does not recognise the network and also tried changing boot sequence as well.

Could you please elobrate the issue so that we can help you with correct resolution?
Are you able to boot your computer and login into windows now?
Is your computer shipped with windows 7 or 8 operating system?

The system came with 8.1 preloaded, I can not get past my basic signin, it goes to a blank page with user account picture and no network, internet or intranet.

The old acer is now deciding if it can up date or not after I re arranged to get the modem in the a/c'd room.

So have turned to the trusty Mac Pro current model.

Again I thank Sharanji for the direction to get things working again.

After many attempts at option I finally just did a System Restore at the most recent point and now things are back to normal even if I had forgotten to check the ethernet cord which was quickly corrected.

I hope others in the community find answers as I have done, still an Acer fan over various other brands, even after some tried to point me elsewhere.
