I have had to have a new hard drive installed as I got a error message saying old drive failing.

I also had a clean install of windows 7 as I was uncertain whether my discs I created would be ok.

I therefore have not got all of the freebies that were installed on the laptop as new. I now find that the dvd drive is not showing in my computer and nothing happens when I insert disc.

This happened a couple of days ago and I did a system restore to the previous restore point.  Does anyone know how to solve this.

I have also not got the egis safe - any ideas how to get this back

    So....probably your DVD is faulty.

have you check in BIOS if it's listed on bootable devices?

press F2 at boot, if it's not listed, it's faulty.

Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Where you see the Yellow exclamation mark, double click it, choose "Details" tab, from the dropdown menu choose "HardwareIDs", click the first string and copy/paste it here.

Thanks for your reply, but there are no exclamation marks and the dvd drive is not shown

    Good.

probably something was wrong in the bios saved settings.
